| i am a Registered General Nurse in U.K, I QUALIFIED 20 YRS AGO,but am constantly updating with courses etc and currently working as a nurse.N.Z nursing council say that they need a copy of my training syllabus and signed letter from my nursing school to allow me to practice in NZ. Unfortunately my school of nursing is no longer in existance.Does anyone have any way around this? Nursing is still on the POL, BUT THEY ARE NOT MAKING LIFE EASY! |

Hi
I qualified as RN back in 1978 and, like you, my school of nursing no longer exists. What I did was to
1. Contact the Health Trust in which my school was in and write to the Director of Nursing and explain the problem and asked if any old records would have been kept for me or the actually nurse training schedules at that time. Luckily some records had been kept by the trust.
2. Also, I contacted the UKCC (NMC as now) and explained the situation and they were able to give me a schedule of the mandatory parts of training I would have had to qualify in 1978.
3. Luckily, I still had my record of schedule, a little brown book thaat the General Nursing Council issued back then, in which we had to record all the time spent on various wards, experiences and a record of all practical work done.
Eventually, I was able to submit, with verification by UKCC and have gained reg with NZ Nursing Council as both nurse and midwife.
It does take a lot of time and reminder phone calls/letters to keep people looking for you.
Good luck

It only took a couple of weeks for NZ to recognise my quals and register me; the longest part is gathering your evidence over here!!! I got all my sorted and gained NZ reg before submitting my EOI.
