I've heard that on Monday 9th feb 3:30 BBC2 is showing "We got a new life"- update on family that emigrated to Nz last year. Smile

May be interesting to watch so set those videos.

I wish they'd show these programmes in NZ too. I'm sure kiwis and migrants would also be interested in seeing them.

hi John

Lots of food for thought. The family worked really hard to try and get established with 2 new businesses and 2 young children.

money and missing families back home were the major worries.

They did build up a social life and their daughter settled well in school

but there were obviously many low points along the way.

Seem set to stay in Tauranga though. It shows you have to keep with it to get the benefits.

How long have you been in NZ? How tough was it for you?

The UK programme "A place Down Under" is also worth watching - it's about UK families migrating to Oz, but their experience is pretty much identical to UK families migrating to NZ.

Thanks r+j. It'll be eighteen months soon. I'm ashamed to admit that I've fitted in like a hand in a glove. Loving it here on the North Shore, jogging on the beach most mornings and, as they say, no worries. Nice One

I watched the programme and found they were definitely the wrong people to show.
They were a married couple with 2 children (3 year old boy, around 8 year old girl).
They had a wonderful life in the UK but decided to move to NZ.
After getting there all I heard from the woman was complaining about how she couldn't palm off her kids anymore to her parents.
Then in the second breath she would say "we have moved here to spend more time with the kids"
Then in the next breath "oh we're buying another business".

It appeared that the couple would rather not have children or that they just seem to get in the way.
They mentioned many times about how it was good for the children but I think the main reasons they moved were for them without any thought on what it would be like.

Shame really as it didn't, for me, show me anything of note as it mainly centered around there problems which to me were stupidity and selfishness.

Either that or the programme was edited to look that way ...
