just doing a bit more research and reading one of the nzis's docs about life in nz.
"All types of personal violence are frowned upon. For example,
it is increasingly considered unacceptable to smack or otherwise
physically discipline children."
is this really true? or is it just political correctness and even lies from a government obsessed with p.c.? i say lies because i'm sure i saw a poll in 'stuff' or something showing a big majority of kiwis thought smacking was alright.

Politics is always tricky - everyone has their own view and it's so easy to start battling over political issues - we certainly don't want this site to become a political discussion board. So I will try to stay out of the fray and stick to the facts as I understand them:
The NZ Labour party, currently in power, describes itself as left of centre and advocates left of centre positions on many social issues. One of the Labour Party's desires is to make smacking illegal. They have, as yet, not legislated for this because, as you rightly say, the Labour Party's view on the matter differs from that of a majority of New Zealanders.
It's not really surprising that the NZIS document quoted above reflects the viewpoint of their political masters. It seems, as we have seen in a number of posts now, about a variety of issues, that the information placed in the public domain by the NZIS is not always entirely accurate. |

Count me in amongst the left of centres!
Seriously, from what I'm reading during my research, I have an affinity with the NZ Labour party on many social issues. |

As a father of two... a bloody good 'clip around the ear' certainly works!!!
I lived in Sweden where it is illegal to chastise your child in this way.... not sure it works. |

Sorry chaps, but I believe that children have as much right to preserve their physical integrity as adults do.
As a mother, I've found other good ways to manage my child's behaviour, and teach him right from wrong in a way that bolsters parent-child communication.
However, that's all I'm going to say on the matter, as this forum is dedicated to NZ immigration stuff.
Peace.
