Is it just me or does anyone else out there sit for hours and hours looking for sites and info - even though you end up at the same places and read the same info time and time again, or you read totally contradictory pieces of info and end up as confused as you started!!
I think it drives my hubby potty but I have this overwhelming urge to keep looking for info !!
Is it a female trait?! |

Yes, I can relate to that! For me I think it's something to do with an attempt to deal with a stressful situation, particularly with it's being a new system and few people having been through it yet. The more information I have the easier I find it to deal with.

Definately NOT a female trait Moorf. I seem to be looking at various aspects of NZ at every spare moment, and some that are not spare at all.
It drives my wife nuts, but she understands the need for information, after all, you would not book a two week holiday without checking out the destination, so it makes sense to find out as muchas possible about the place you intend to spend the rest of your days.
Sure, you do come accross conflicting advise and opinions, but I think as time goes by you learn which to trust above others. This forum in particular, seems to be very well informed and very user friendly. It does "wander off topic" now and then (sea cucumbers...5 pages!!) but thats part of the fun. |

same here, Moorf! (as you know about me! ...)
drives my husband crazy! i'm not allowed to talk about 'it' any more ....
i can do all the research i want ... just spare him - he's frankly not interested .... has his work, has his son, has his few moments to recover from all the stress etc ... can't blame him.... funny though - i RELAX as i find out more ... it's SOOTHING to me!!!
that said - i did almost have a complete breakdown after being on the forum for a month - so i guess i'm just kidding myself and i need to stop being so compulsive and obsessed (?) about it!! i DO have an 'addictive' personality, my husband doesn't AT ALL. so i guess i'm addicted to this machine .... and to all the info at my fingertips ..... well, as far as i can see ... it's my ONLY addiction right now .... so i won't fret. (had to work hard to let go of all the others in my lifetime though )
sesame~
maybe we could start info seekers anonymous ... (ISA) ? |

Hi everyone
I can SO relate to what you are saying! I too was an info junky before I got out here - but not only was I obsessed with this forum and gleaning any drop of info, but also on checking my emails coming in from various contacts from NZ. I used to count the hours before I could expect an email from NZ, calculating the time difference, estimating when - for example - the recruitment agency would turn their computer on and reply to my last message! I used to wait for emails from immigration, Nic (Kiwi) as she was finding me somewhere to live, district health boards(jobs), Hudson (job interviews) this forum (PM), schools, real estate agents.....I was like a woman possessed - the only thing that mattered in my life was getting on the computer, logging on to NZ planet!
I am glad to say, it does get better - you do go through the withdrawal syndrome but has to be done. However, now I am in NZ I have now got a different obsession - seeking out the best shops - I am again like a woman possessed. Everytime I go into work, I ask yet another colleague for info on shopping - I even ask the patients (though I usually let them finish telling me about their health problem first) I'm considerate like that.....

OMG! So many people like me!
I wake to NZ on my mind I eat with NZ on my mind and I sleep with NZ on my mind!...I'm not going down the other road!
I think I have this enormous info craving because I have took it upon myself to become our immigration consultant! and if there is a cock up it's a big style cock up that is soley down to me at least that is how other half will view it! Must be nice to sit back and let someone else take all this pressure on? and then off he'll toddle to NZ for a few weeks for interviews while I stay home with the kids (and the six weeks hols )
Oh what sacrifices we make to get to paradise and this b***dy country makes it so easy for every tom dick and harry to get in! but thats another topic!
Well got a post to type so gotta go |
