My wife & I are seriously considering emigration to NZ after having spent two unforgettable holidays there in the last three years. Unfortunately my wife "missed the boat" as it were regarding police recruitment from the UK, at the time emigration was just a thought. It might come to pass that this route will open again in the future for her fingers crossed
I am in a different situation having worked offshore on oil rigs for the best part of the last 14 years. I have spent an awful lot of time searching for information about the oil & gas industry in NZ and in particular trying to find vacancies but as yet have had no success in finding jobs sites that have an oil industry vacancies section or even finding the names of companies involved in the industry (other than the likes of Todd Energy, Shell etc.)
If anyone can point me in the right direction towards finding offshore work I'd be most appreciative. Should this option be unavailable I would consider working in a port as a crane operator and any info as to where to start my search in that direction would also be appreciated.

Hi Sanddancer

Unfortuntately I don't know alot about offshore work in oil and gas, but if you're still considering looking into crane work then I know a little......my partner is the container crane supervisor for the Port of Tauranga and after talking to him it seems that if you have experience in crane driving, then you'd be highly employable at most ports in NZ. They're far more likely to recruit externally than to train up internally from scratch.

He (of course) recommends trying Tauranga first (mainly due to the better quality of life and lower house prices) but is sure that the Port of Auckland would be interested too. The Cargo Company (owned by the Port of Tauranga) is responsible for recruitment and are contactable through this website:

The Port of Tauranga is www.port-tauranga.co.uk

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the advice, we spent a couple of days at the mount and thought it was a beautiful town. It would certainly come in our top five destinations. We will see if enquiries fetch any good news Smile
