Shy
Greetings!

this site is such a gift.

my husband and i are currently planning our immigration to nz.
we hope to depart the usa by october.. (no need to be here for the election!). we'll close up shop here (completely) and go the 90 day passport priveledge route -then look for a job once we get there... (we'll get interviews set up before hand if possible)

briefly: my husband (38) is a software developer with 5 yrs. experience (not sure if additional 'qualifications' or 'certifications' are needed...); i (austrian, 41 yrs. old) am a baker/patissier (2 year cooking trade school) - although currently i am 'only' the delighted mother of a spirited 18 month old boy. Razz

we live a very modest and simple lifestyle - growing our own food, having an orchard, milking the goat, making cheese, kefir, yogurt; brewing our own beer, ..... and we would like to continue that lifestyle in nz.
so, we're 'alternative' (kinda, sorta.... :) i guess with high tech ambitions?

my questions for you all:

- has anyone travelled through nz on a super tight budget?
camping out?
hostelling?
- do you know of like-minded communites? we're not only looking for a job - but also for a new family/community.
- ideas on where to ideally combine the IT job with the orchard and the goats? oh, and my husband is an avid skier!

Nutcase if anyone has time and thoughts to spare - i'd love it.
