Hello Everyone
This is my first post but have been reading all the posts with great interest for a while.
My hubby and I went to NZ and OZ two years ago for our honeymoon and liked OZ but fell in love with NZ. Although we knew this would happen before we went!
Anyway, ever since then we have been looking into how to get there. Unfortunately neither of us enough points and no job offers although we are thinking like others on here of selling up and going over there and taking a chance. We are also going to go to the Expo in October (anyone else been? any good?).
I have two uncles in Perth who have said they will sponser us to get into Oz but we really want to be in NZ. What are the rules re moving to NZ once have PR in Oz?
Thanks for any help.

Hello nat
Don't take my word as gospel, but I looked at this briefly a while back. I phoned several agents just to get a bit of info, you know - questions worked out in advance so as to get the best info without paying out a small fortune.
All agreed that if you were to be granted PR status in Oz, you are considered a PR for NZ, that is, you can work and live in NZ as if you were granted normal PR for NZ alone. I believe this is due to a trade agreement which doesn't blow back the other way: that is a NZ citizen has to go into the Oz pool like everyone else. So, if you found yourself with more chance of getting in Oz you could aim for that with a very good chance of NZ's job market being open to you also. That is only an impression though, I haven't looked at the nuts and bolts of this approach.
Going back to the agents, all positively said you could activate a granted Oz PR by merely staying in Sydney 48 hrs and then flying on. Definately not for the faint hearted though, laws and agreements change... regards. |

Yes, this is true

A New Zealand citizen has the right to live in work in Australia.
A New Zealand permanent resident does not.

You hit the nail on the head there. Agreements do change and so it's a risky option to take, although I'm sure some do. |
