Hi! I'm gathering all my documentation right now to apply for residency under the Partnership policy; hubbie is a Kiwi. Done the medical, waiting for the police check to be returned.

Does anyone know whether it's really required for us both to send our passports with the application, does that speed things up or is just birth certificates enough for id?? Just concerned about giving up our passports for however long as we want to get some Europe short breaks in before we never have the chance again Hmmm

Also, hubbie has lived here in the UK for 16 years; has NZ birth cert and passport, no residency certificate as such. I take it that's enough?

Another part of the Guide says 'evidence that New Zealand is your sponsor's primary place of established residence...' Confused Eh? How can his primary residence be there but at the same time us have joint bills etc etc? Rolling Eyes

Any info appreciated Smile

Hi Dinnaefash

We were in the same position and wanting to travel Europe whilst our de facto partnership application was processing. We took our application in to London NZIS personally with photocopies of our passports. The lady who looked at our docs checked the photocopies against our passports, initialled the copies and returned our passports. Wish we'd known this before, as we delayed our application due to a couple of planned holidays.

Heather (Kiwi) has lived in UK for last 14 yrs, NZ birth cert (again original returned, initialled photocopy kept) and passport were evidence enough.

The next bit about primary place of residence worried us too but was ignored, so all in all you're just about there.

Best of luck,
John

Hi, Dinnaefash,

My Kiwi husband and I have not yet reached the point where we have submitted my partnership application, so I will not presume to advise on this aspect of your queries. Also, we are in the USA, so requirements may be different. We are applying only for the work visa at this point and won't apply for my PR until we have settled in NZ. We were advised this is less expensive for us and a much more flexible option in terms of processing, so that's why we've chosen to proceed in this fashion.

Re your question about qualifying to return as an ex-pat, NZ seems to be quite flexible, as JT has told you. My husband was born in NZ, migrated at age 22 to Australia, became an Australian citizen, lived there for 27 years, then migrated here to the USA to live with me as a permanent resident. When we contacted NZIS in Los Angeles, we were advised that so long as he can produce a certified copy of his birth certificate showing he was born in NZ and has never renounced his citizenship to become a citizen of another country (he hasn't), he qualifies as a NZ citizen -- period. So you have no worries there.

Best of luck to you and your hubby in returning to New Zealand! - Rae

Anyone know if we could submit cancelled passports? We both got new ones recently and the old ones have the relevant stamps in them anyway - that would save us having to give up our current passports... but maybe they'd only accept current passports Confused

You can send certified copies of your passports with your application (this is what we've just done). You can get these done at a solicitor and it cost us five pounds per copy. I also sent a cert copy of my birth certifcate. Your partner will need to do the sponsorship form and get that witnessed by a solicitor anyway. If he has NZ citizenship, then that should be fine. Good luck Smile

Great point Mattford.

Thieving b'stard notary we used (friend of a friend) charged us £25 per doc witnessed and then gave us 10% discount, for which we were pathetically grateful...

Notary, £5 at local solicitors, is a good option if your not local to the office. I'm lucky in that I attended the office, Haymarket, and all documnets were photocopied by them and then returned for use. But they have kept my passport to issue the visa, approved back in July and asked for 1st September issue, OK to do that, giving 12 months from that date to enter country. Don't think they will take an expired passport.

Hi MC - how's Streatham Uhoh wow I have memories of my tiny flat on Leigham Court Road a few *cough* years back!!!

Quick question - couldn't figure it out from your postings - but we are going to need our passport for travel to Italy end August and then the biggie trip to NZ in Sept... are you saying that we can get around sending out passports for our selection by either:-

a) Taking them to NZ Hse in person and having them copied
or
b) Get certified copies signed by solicitors etc..

And are these are acceptable for EOI process.. .but how do they then give you your PR stamp (is there one?!) or do we need to revisit NZ Hse with our passports to do this - in which case does that mean we have to come back from NZ?!!

HELP!

Personaly visited Haymarket and they copied passports first time, then re-visited for them once approved for visa inclusion. But I'm sure they will let you have them back for trips, didn't need so didn't ask. But you wouldn't be first person with this request.
