It apparently rains a lot less on the South Island, if you go far enough South there should be about as much snow and ice that anybody could wish for. Not my cup of tea, but it makes sense if he's into huskies and the like.
Cheers

but RAIN??! - Despite my efforts, his suspicions have finaly been aroused as to just how much it rains out there |
Hi H,
The east of NZ is dry, the west is wet. Driest is Central Otago. Official climate classification is semi-arid which is pretty dry. Anywhere on the east coasts of either island will have far fewer rainy days than anywhere in the UK.
Continental Climate: Due to the moderating effect of the ocean, summer and winter temperatures in most NZ locations differ by less than 10 C. The most continental climate is found in the South Island, in Central Otago, inland from Dunedin.
Here the temperature reaches 24 C on an average day in summer while in winter it falls to -2 C on an average night. Rainfall is a semi-arid 350 mm a year. In comparison, rainfall in other New Zealand locations is:
>> Christchurch 635 mm.
>> Wellington 1250 mm.
>> Auckland 1200 mm.
Much of New Zealand's stone fruits, such as peaches and apricots are grown in Central Otago.

Hi Ruthyroo,
A good dehumidifier was the best investment we made , took loads of dampness out of a really crappy house , and made the heating actually work!

- FOR LUCAS-
Do you remember me? I'm the italian boy who's graduating in Economy and trade in Milan and wants to move in Nz in the near future. I appreciated your answers about my question (in the italian post) and your thoughts but I don't agree with you.
I live in the one of the wealthiest regions of Europe, firms call people at home offering a permanent Job in every moment... after taking my degree I would have many opportunities of working in Milan but It's not what I want!
YOu're right when you say that Europe offers more chances than NZ economy but I'm not looking for that, rather a better quality of life. In Lombardy we are 9 milion people and there's traffic and pollution everywhere! Everyone wants to make money ...... Beyond this, weather can be horrible here! Summer are too much hot and winter very cold! I think all the people here ( from uk, california, canada,...) are not looking for money but a better place to grow their children. My fears are about finding a standard job in a office for an italian boy who's not a native english but wants to learn the language and engage myself to make it! sorry for my english |

...thats what I told you. The chances for a professional life for you, a non native English speacker. Apart from that ...you will be screaming for a good coffe or for good Italian food.
As far as the life stile is concerned unless you have a good income ar a good job, you won'taste much of it.
Also beware about the NZ Climate...I found it quite challenging (the sun, the light intensity, the rain, the unmidity, the wind, the cold watter)...and I don't come from sunny Lombardia. |

Lukas. Are you still in New Zealand at the moment??
If so, where are you based?
I am just wondering if the problems you have encountered are particular to certain areas. |

| Aprt from that if the money are not an issue for you all I can suggest is to go in NZ on a visitor permit which can be extended up to 9 months…more than enough to see the country and the opportunities. On the case you will find work as an economist NZIS will generously give you PR. |
