Hello everyone! We've been learning by reading the wonderful ENZ, meeting with immigration consultants, and watching the points drop. At this point I'm likely not to use a consultant.
Without a job offer we are at about 115 points. I've been self employed (in IT) for many years and much of my work and income follow me when I travel. For the near term my only interest in obtaining full time work in NZ is for the point value and to meet people. But working 80 hour weeks isn't a great way to get started in a new country. If the points keep dropping perhaps the job offer isn't needed. Investor class isn't possible for us and LTBV won't likely succeed since it wasn't established to favor web based businesses with 0 employees.
The EOI form indicates that the partner can kick in 10 points with proof of a job offer. My wife has an offer from our visit last year - but it is only for a few hours per week. This is typical for her field and is solved by taking part time work at multiple locations but it raises an interesting point. What are the minimum hours / wages needed for the partner to qualify for job points?
Like many of you we are wondering 'how low can it go.' But what is the best strategy for handling the inevitable when the point level starts climbing again?
For example what would happen if the point level dipped to 115 for a few weeks and then returned to 130? Perhaps many of us would get invitations to apply but what would happen if the level climbs before the application is submitted? Would it be held or rejected? Or processed at the 115 level that was in effect when the invitation was issued?
