Both myself and partner paul want to move to nz but could use some advice re work issues, im a serving police officer in cardiff in wales and paul is in the merchant navy, does anybody know if this counts for anything when applying to live in nz, any advice would be really great, we also have approx £200,000 to bring with us, how does this work with the points system. many thanks for your help.

Hi have just been talking to a friend in the police here in the UK and she was saying NZ have just started using one of the systems we use over here and they are looking for people who are already familiar with it. Unfortunately I can't remember the name but will try to find out.

A few months ago, there were plenty of newspaper articles about the NZ police force actively recruiting from the UK (particularly from Manchester if I remember correctly).
Is this process still happening?

Kim,

Take a look at these links:

Minister welcomes UK police
Information for UK Police Produced by the NZ Police Association for UK Police interested in NZ Police

There may be something useful in there somewhere.

Good luck

Kim Sorry for the delay in making a response.

I recevied an email from thw NZ police recently which stated that you must be a permanent resident in NZ before you can apply.

But previous experience & training would be taken into consideration when planning your personal training which might be shortened.
