""SPLASH"" - well I've jumped in and it is nice here!
Hi Mooorf - ha thought I'd beat you to it!
As a newbie I have lots of questions relating to achieving the dream of PR in NZ. I've reviewed my points situation and it doesn't look good without a job offer Is there anyone out there who could give some advice? I could go through an agency but I've been told that this is expensive and anyway there are no guarantees.
I work as an analyst in corporate accounts for a US multi national (sadly no NZ links here) and my job is not on the skills shortage list (SSL) . So that's a non-starter. I do have an honours degree in Marine Biology - but that's not on the SSL either. Are there any other routes that I may have missed? Or is it a question of training in a skills shortage area and hoping that by the time that I qualify the Skill is still in demand?

Following on from the previous comments ..
You don't necessarily have to be 'loaded' to do the investor visa. It largely depends on your age. Lots of people have good equity in their homes nowadays (provided they can sell 'em! )
Provided you can raise the cash, you can also live on the interest during the two years. Say you were a 30-year old with 4 years of business experience. You'd need NZ$1,000,000 which is approx £350k. Put your mill in the NZ bank and earn 6.5% (easily) and you'd be getting a gross income of NZ$65k before you start work.
That'd help pay the rent for a couple of years until you get your money back!
... just a thought ...

Aha - another school-day for me - I had read the investor amount incorrectly and had calc'd it at £750k !!
So - it's a possiblity... |

Moorf, NickH
Thanks for the info. I had checked out the investor route - but I'd need $3 million. Not a chance! The other possibility is the business route. I wanted to buy an existing farm and had thoughts of growing Kiwi fruit, grapes or similar. Has anyone any experience of this? I'm investigating this at the moment - will let you know what I find. |

Moorf ---
My NZ$1m was only a 'finger in the air' based on an age. As you get older (as I am ) the magic number keeps going on up.
You just have to keep saving harder and selling more stuff!
