|

Hi All,
I'm sure I've seen this here before, and I've searched here and on the NZIS site to no avail.
Does anyone know, once PR is granted, how long you have before you must move to NZ?
Just thinking that getting PR now is a real possibility and employers might be more willing to employ overseas applicants if they already have PR before they actually move to NZ.
Thanks,
Mark. |

Hi markkellaway,
I think that you have 1 yr. to move after getting your PR. 4 months if you have a job offer. I might be wrong on this and hope that some senior members of this forum will correct me if I'am.
Best of Luck |

Hi Mark,
I asked the same question a few days ago: see the post on "Another paperwork question".
Others seem to think it's a year (including Sadie - thanks!) which is reassuring, but they didn't mention the 4 month rule for job offers.
From bitter experience of trying to get work from offshore, I think that PR or no, it'll still be easier to get a job if you're in NZ, so we're going out once PR is granted more or less asap, just giving ourselves time to pack.
Whoops, I'm talking like it's a foregone conclusion! Many a hurdle still to be negotiated...
Good luck!

We are simply waiting for our visa's to be put in our passports - assuming they don't find anything wrong with the application/evidence we have submitted.
becuase we have our flights booked for 1st October and our house completes next wednesday.

Thanks everyone!
I agree about it being easier to find a job once in NZ Dan, I was there for 2 weeks in May and had an interview which we thought would lead to an offer until the other day. The PR will make them take you more seriously though , even if offshore. The year will give me some cushion to look for a job while here before actually leaping!!
Good luck to you too, you are taking a brave step. Do you have kids? Are you selling up before going?

Can you please post your timeline so far and also your location and where your application was/is processed. It'll help in giving a rough idea of the processing times we are looking at.
Thanks again. |

Hello
EOI submitted 4th March 2004 (a little optimistic as we had 170 points)
Drawn from pool @17th May 2004
Took about a week for NZIS to write to tell us but we checked our online status.
Verification seemed to take forever.
Received Invitation to Apply on 23rd June.
Booked medicals asap
Submitted Application/Evidence about a week ago.
Spoke to case officer who says that processing time for this final part is 4-6 weeks so we should be ok to fly on 1st October providing nothing major is wrong with the application.
We perhaps could have submitted our form a bit earlier but seemed to have to fit it in around everything else.
Do not underestimate how long it takes you to get all your evidence together and how long it takes to organise certification of documents (if you don't want to send originals), and then present it in some sort of orderly fashion
Hope this helps

Don't know if the four month thing is correct concerning pr and jobs.
I think with pr it is a year, i do aplogise in advance if this is wrong.

Hi Bennigton1
We we're told 4 months by an immigration agent , not that we used one, but I will make it my mission to find out and I will report back when I have.
Cheers

For what it's worth, I'm with Bennington on this one.
Why on earth would NZIS want to impose some kind of time limit on taking up a job offer, particularly as these are the people they are looking to attract in NZ (i.e. have obtained employment)...not only that, but then have a shorter time limit than for people who may have enough points without an offer of employment. :
Doesn't make sense; surely even NZIS aren't gormless enough for this! And four months is also too short for NZIS to process all stages of a PR application.
It must be down to the employer to decide how long they are willing to wait.
Methinks, go back to the immigration consultant and demand a refund!

As I said in my post - we didn't use an agent - so no refund necessary.
It was not 4 months for NZIS to process all stages of an application.
What I was referring to is that when NZIS have issued PR, you then have 4 months to take up the job offer.
I didn't say it made sense but you're in the dark as much as I am.
If this does turn out to be correct..... I didn't make the rules.
Sadie
P.S I hope you're correct about it being 12 months becasue it will make my life much easier. |
