Apologies for my illiterate reading... Response a touch brusque though I thought...
But the timings do seem unbelievably stupid. Having a shorter time limit of 4 months for applicants with job offers, but they are willing to wait for up to a year for those who possibily do not.
The only reasoning I can think of is that it would then allow these applicants a year to go and find a job before moving over there...with PR already granted, this would make their job much easier. But then again, the new SMC system was designed for migrants who had already got job offers before applying and it is only recently that the points have dropped low enough to allow non-offer applications.
Can anyone else shed light on this?? |

I would imagine that they've realised that employers aren't taking people seriously if there is no concrete evidence of intent to move over.
I think the system makes sense when you think about it, if you'd secured an offer why would you need longer than 4 months?

Hi N&S
Thanks for the detailed info. about your timeline.
Quick question for you.
1. In the Invitation Letter you received (June 23rd), did they give any time limit (like in so many days/months) by which you need to submit the evidence?.
Please let me know. |

They say you've got 4 months to submit your application, but if it's likely to take longer for whatever reason then you can contact them to discuss. |

Hi everyone
With regard to the issue of when you have to take up a job offer, I've just read the Guidance notes, which reads under "Section 18A Requirements"
"If you have an offer of skilled employment, you must take up that offer.....within 3 months of being granted your first residence permit......and remain in that employment for a period of at least 3 months"
Hope this helps to clarify.
Richard
Having just thought about the above, you don't get your residence permit until you arrive, prior to that it's a residence visa, so all that appears to be saying is that you have to take the job up within 3 months of arrival in NZ. So maybe it is the case that you've got a year to travel out to NZ once you have the residency visa and once you're there you have 3 months to take up the job offer?? Sorry, just confused matters even more. It's probably hypothetical anyway as most employers will want you to start asap. |
