I thought that if my husband applied for the EOI as the principal applicant that we would have the threshold number of points (100). However in reviewing the EOI form I discovered that his job (winemaker/viticulturist) is on the additional future growth list....not in the 3 growth areas that now count for points.

My question is this...I am in IT and I know that I could get the points to qualify for the EOI points (without a job offer ) but I don't want to work in IT when I move to NZ. I want to do something different (looking to get in the Bakery industry). Can I apply as the principal applicant but it be my husband who we find a job in New Zealand. The area that we would be looking in would be the smaller rural areas as that is where the vineyards would be and we are very confident that he would be able to find a job. My assumption also is in these areas IT jobs would be scarce.

Is that a workable scheme or must I be the one to find the job if I am the principal applicant for the EOI?

Your opinions would be appreciated.

Hi Laurie

Do you have the threshold number of points i.e 100 without a job offer. Presumably so. If this is the case, if you are selected from the pool with 100 neither of you will have to work because you are not claiming any points for a job offer.

If you want to get a job offer for the extra 50 points it must be the principal applicant who has the job offer.

This does not stop the partner getting a job but you only get 10 points (i think) for this.

If you do have to apply as the principal applicant with a job offer, you only have to be in that job for about 6 months to fulfill your visa requirements.
