Hi All,
I thought it'll be a good idea to start a thread where everyone can post there timeline for NZ immigration. It'll provide a good source for all to see and estimate the time line for current processing from different areas. I'am going to submit my EOI next week and 'am applying from U.S.A. . As per the NZIS people I spoke to in U.S., they say that applications from U.S. are processed at Dunedin and take around 3-6 weeks for processing between EOI (Expression of Interest) and ITA (Invitation to Apply) and approx. another 3-6weeks from ITA (Invitation to Apply) to PR (Permanent Residency). In total its a 2-4 month process from EOI submission to PR from U.S. .
It'll be interesting to see the processing times from all other processing centers.
I hope that others will contribute to this thread. |

Hi Michelle
Thanks for your response. Where did you apply from and where is your application processed? If you are in England, will your file be moved to U.K. or will the processing complete in NZ?
Awaiting your response...... |

Ah now this is where it gets complicated, we lodged the EOI in England but are hoping to go out on work visas in Sept. I have asked the chap in Auckland and he said if I have been assigned a case officer in london prior to going it can be passed to someone in Auckland once we arrive. If we have a choice I will stick with London as I have heard they are processed faster.
If you are wondering why I ended up speaking to someone in Auckland, I was given the number by the helpline in London who said that Auckland dealt with EOI's.
My letter saying 6 to 8 weeks was addressed Wellington and posted in Singapore, all very confusing.

| Just a warning. We spent a flippin fortune phoning the NZIS helpline in London, and thought we had everything covered, had asked every possible question... then when we pitched up at the NZIS office in Hamilton to process on the spot my DH Work Permit (POL) and my open work permit (based on partnership, also issued on the spot according to NZIS helpline), we were told that while DH could be done there and then, mine would be at least a six-month wait - witha job to start in three days that was a bit of a disaster! We told the guy on the desk what NZIS helpline had told us, that they could both be issued on the spot, and he replied 'That's the problem with the helpline - they don't know the situation in the individual branches so they give out the wrong information'!!! Argh!! It did work out for us in the end, but would strongly suggest that if any of you know where your application is being processed in NZ, that you phone them up and get their processing times, rather than rely on the official line from the Helpline. |

Well that explains a lot, thank you. Also when you phone the helpline I have a strong suspicion that you are put through to any office that can answer the call. I phoned last week and I am convinced I was speaking to someone overseas as there was a significant edelay on the line.
I have been given conficting information about times for processing which would tie in with what Ruth has just said.
All that said I have found them to be very helpful but obviously they can only speak about the situation in that particular branch

Hi
My application for residence was handed in to the Christchurch office on the 24th June. They told me there that it can take 2 - 3 months to process, the thing that is holding them up is the NZ police checks. Which confussed me a bit as I thought that you only need police checks done if you have been here over a year. Can any one shed any light on this? Why is NZ police doing their checks on us when we have been here only a matter of months?
Cheers |

Hi evelynne_r, goldwheels, michelle and ruthyroo,
Its good to see that this thread is growing. I hope that others will also post there timeline for all to assess there processing times. One of the biggest thing that concerns a prospective immigrant is the processing times. After you apply, its an emotional roller coster that you get on. Tense moments, anger, frustration, happy days......it just gets crazy. With your application, you send your whole life, future, dreams and hopes to someone hoping that they will help you convert your dreams into reality and that in my opinion can be a very intense experience in itself.
Millions of questions popup in your mind. Will my application be approved? , Will there be any problems? , Will they ask for more documentation? , How long will it take? , How long can I live with this uncertaintity? etc.....
I hope that with this thread we all can help ease the anxiety of a lot of tense souls (including us) who are hoping to move to a new land and start a new life......I hope that others will join us in posting there timelines in this thread so that we all can see that WE are moving towards our future ....together. |

Received letter confirming selection on 2nd July 2004. Letter from Wellington but postmarked Singapore. Letter says we will complete checking in 6 - 8 weeks.
NZIS website says verification in 2-4 weeks.
Confirmation letter states 6 - 8 weeks.
Contacted London NZIS via fax, had no reply.

Hi Glenn
Thanks for posting your timeline. What confuses me is the fact that for people applying from U.K., there letters are post marked in Singapore . Just doesn't make sense that your case is processed in NZ and the letter is posted half way around he world.
Good luck in your persuit and keep us posted on any new developments. |

I just handed in my application for permanent residency to the London NZIS yesterday. I'm applying under the family category (partnership policy). It's taken about six weeks to get everything together up til now - Police certificate, medical forms, letters from friends, certified copies of passport/birth certificate etc. It was a FANTASTIC feeling to actually hand the whole thing in
Someone went through the application to check we had everything we needed, and I wrote them a cheque for the full £460 it costs to process (which is strange because I read somewhere you don't need to pay when you initially hand in the application..).
At NZIS London they're currently processing family category applications in about 1 MONTH, which means we shouldn't have any problems emigrating in mid Novemer this year.. Yess!!
We checked out flight costs on the way home and this whole thing is starting to get really exciting now.. Only three more months of work in London and we're off to New Zealand.. |
