Probably a stupid question, but I'm really not sure about this.

Must one have one's qualifications assessed BEFORE submitting the EOI?? Or is the assessment only needed if and when one is invited to apply?

Any help greatly appreciated.

Hello Nisse

If your qualifications are not on the list of NZIS Recognised Qualifications list you need to complete a pre-assessment with the NZQA.

The pre-assessment can be done online at a cost of $75NZD

The turn around is 2-3 days at the moment sometime less and is really easy to do.

The purpose of the pre-assessment is to tell you which NZIS level 1-10 you have be preliminarily assessed as so you can then complete your EOI for the requisite number of points.

If you're sure your qualifications are not on the Recognised Qualifications list follow this link to submit your on-line pre-assessment.

Good Luck

Hi Sadie,

thank you for that information. Sad Now we have to push back the EOI, I unfortunately thought I'd only need the assessment for when we'd apply, if invited. Alas, I was wrong.

I hope they don't raise the points again before we get the assessment, with all the people who now qualify they might get so many EOIs that they push up the points agian. Hope not fingers crossed

Thanks again

The next pull from the pool will be Wednesday 18th so you have plenty of time to do the pre-assessment and submit your EOI for next Wednesday.

You can fill out everything on the EOI in readiness for submission next Wednesday.

What type of qualifications do you need preassessed if you don't mind my asking.

Hi Sadie,

I have an MA in sinology - but because it't not from a university that's on the recognised list, I must have it assessed. A bit weird the whole thing. It's from a university in Denmark, but not a single university from anywhere in Scandinavia is on the list Confused Universities from e.g. Zimbabwe are on the list, no disrespect to unis in Zimbabwe, but why some and not others? My husband who has a degree from a Swiss university will not need an assessment, but I, unfortunately, will, and we need those points.

I hope it all goes well, I've sent off for the pre-assessment and hope to hear something in the not too distant future.

My qualifications are on the recognised qualifications list (City & Guilds part 2 in Motor Vehicle Mechanic Craft Studies.

I contacted NZQA to get them assessed for my EOI. They were at Level 4.

I contacted them again and they told me they had to be fully assessed for immigration purposes.

Can anyone confirm this or have I been ripped off for NZ$636?

Regards

Glenn

Hi Glenn

Unfortunately this is correct.

The pre-assessment report is undertaken quickly so you can find out what if any level you are assessed at.

This enables you to submit your EOI without first needing to undergo Full Assessment. Which can take ages.

Imagine if you had submitted a full assessment and then found out after paying $600 that you didn't have comparable qualifications.... ouch

It does turn out expensive but i'd rather know sooner and pay a bit more than wait and pay only to find out I don't have any points.

Just a thought.

Thanks for the reply. I have just read this on the EOI Guide page 20.

http://www.immigration.govt.nz/NR/rdonlyres/E741D6F6-7670-48E1-B824-69B3959461D4/0/1101.pdf

It says that if your qualification is on the recognised qualifications list then it does not have to be further assessed by NZQA.

Nice one Glenn

I'm really pleased for you.

My dad is a brickie who hopes to come out with mum about 12 months after us.

He has C&G I & II plus completed apprenticeship so he wont need to go through NZQA thankfully as he is also a Level 4.

I'm please you found this out before you sent your cheque.

Hi Sadie

Unfortunately my quals are with NZQA at this moment and I have already handed over the cash. I think I have been mis-informed by NZQA so I will have to complain

Bugger!

Can't you ring or email them to say whoa?

Look on the bright side, there's a fair chance you are going to be the most assessed bloke this side of the hemisphere Confused

Hope you manage to sort it out

Sadie
