FIRST, CONGRATS TO ALL OF US ON 115 POINTS...YIPPEE!!!!
Second, when I filled in my EOI online I was pretty positive that my HND in Electronic and Electrical engineering was recognised by NZIS. Now the unimaginable has happened and we have been pulled out the doubts start to float to the surface. I obtained my HND from SCOTVEC and it mentions BTEC here (NZIS recognised qualifications page) http://glossary.immigration.govt.nz/NR/rdonlyres/CE113D29-EFBF-4924-BA15-00AEF9911F83/0/1080.pdf.
Has anyone any experience of this in the past, do NZIS see the two institutions as the same? |

I had similar probs with my NC in Electrical Engineering, only the requirement was that I needed extra modules for the qualification to be recognised (Heavy current). I decided to go for a C&G Part 1 and 2 qual instead (if you have any probs with your HND then maybe you could go down this route - you can do it by distance learning). |

Cheers for the reply.
I looked at doing an Open University BSc in Electronic and Electrical Engineering and they actually rated the Scotvec qualification higher than the equivalent Btec. So I'll keep my fingers crossed |

Thanks Sandra.
Are you actually in NZ now? I seem to remember a post that mentioned your house sale.
Is Dave still enjoying himself?
We hope to be out there mide September, if everything goes according to plan. |

Hi Craig
No - still here. Should exchange contracts next week and I'm hoping for completion the week after. We need completion before 27th as he has committed to the new house and needs to stump up for it then - things are getting a bit tense right now The bank said they would give him a short term loan anyway in case we didn't get the proceeds in time.
I will have to move to my Dads in Cheshire when I've completed as I haven't started any of the process for sending my cat yet, as I wasn't sure whether Dave would be successful with the new house or not. We don't want the cat boarding when he gets there as it will be frightening and confusing enough for him as it is. It's too late now to start it all from here so I might as well wait and do it from Dad's. It will be easier to keep him confined there anyway while all the tests are done.
Dave is still loving NZ and his job - has even started having a social life now. Was invited to dinner the other night and had a good time. He gets on really well with NZ people. Which is good to know. Looks like it'll be nearer the end of September for me. At least the weather in NZ will be getting warmer before I get there. |

Hi Sandra and others,
I agree, congrats to all of us with 115! Could not believe it when I first saw it.
Anyway, my question is about cats. You say you have to take the tests etc. or rather, your cat does and then you write, you'll be going in September. But doesn't one have to wait 6 months from the first rabies test until they take the second one to determine the cat does not have rabies? Or is that different coming from England? If we get invited to apply and my husband gets a job offer, he would have to leave first alone, as I would have to stay here with the cats until all this testing malarkey could be dealt with.
Cheers

Hi Nisse
Yes, you're right the 6 month rule doesn't apply when coming from the UK and he doesn't have to have the rabies test as we are supposedly rabies free in this country. The shippers, Golden Arrow, say they can do it in a minimum of 3 weeks but would prefer more notice, and as I don't have another 3 weeks in this house there's not much point in starting the process now.
I'm sure I've read somewhere on the forum about people from the States travelling via Hawaii which shortens the time. I didn't really pay much attention but will let you know if I find the thread.
We do love our animals don't we. The none pet owners I know are amazed that I'm prepared to pay £800+ just to send my cat. Why don't you give him away etc. etc. They don't seem to realise that he's family.
Regards - Sandra |

This is a quote from SoCal Gal
| Quote: | | One more thing, that I probably didn't make clear as I reread the posts above mine....if you meet the requirements (it's rabies shots things) your pet is actually released to you the day it gets to Hawaii! So, in the best case scenario, you would only have to live in Hawaii 1 day + 6 months before your pets could move freely to NZ. Only!! |
I think you still have to live in Hawaii for 6 months but no quarantine when you arrive in NZ.

this is the thread anyway.
I've just realised that there isn't anything anywhere to say you are in the States I just assumed. Are you?

Hi Sandra,
thanks for your answer. My own fault really - as I haven't put where I am. I'm in Switzerland - so neither the UK nor the Hawaii option would be viable for us. Although, maybe spending 6 mths. in Hawaii wouldn't be too bad Nah, unfortunately we'll have to do the 6 month thing. And there is absolutely no way I would go without my 2 guys.
I agree, lots of people can't understand what all the fuss is about and do think that one is odd, but I don't care.

Funny I should read your posting just as I was faxing off my quick assessment form to NZQA for the very same qualification. If I ever get a reply, I'll let you know.
Where did you graduate from? Mine's from Glasgow Tech. |

To save you some worry, the NZQA assessed my HND as being Level 6.
Cheers. |
