I had a short lived marriage that ended in 93.Am I going to need to order copies of my divorce papers? Do I even need to disclose it?
thanks for any info!

Michelle,
Our consultant told us that we should get all of the paperwork we can together...they may or may not even look at it in any depth. The purpose is to determine a couple of things...how many children do you REALLY have and if you're actually divorced.
The child thing is what concerns them most. If you have children from another marriage that are not applying to immigrate with you, the thought is that they might at a later date. They want to know about everything don't they?
Don't be put off by it...better too much info than not enough. I'd advise ordering a copy of the papers and including them when asked.
Cheers,
Rick |

| Michelle, there's no need to do anything about it. No categories question previous marriages..(unless entering NZ to marry!) The only time is when you have children that are coming & need to get the father's consent, but even then you don't need divorce papers..(agents who deal with other countries may get mixed up sometimes, eg it may be different in Aus, but no need for NZ) |

Michelle,
Sorry, should have clarified this...the EOI for the Skilled Migrant Category does indeed ask for your marital/partnership status including divorce. (Pg. 16).
A third reason they want to know which I neglected to list was to discover any aliases (previous surnames) women may have had. Being a guy, I just don't think about those things! |

Thank you Rich and Grey!!
I have two sons from that marriage that are 11 and 12.My husband formally adopted them back in 97 and they were issued new birth certificates. My ex husband actually signed away his legal rights so I would hope that would not be a problem either.
Also Rich do you mean that they don't like you having more than a certain number of children coming with you or is it that they don't want a suprise later on?

Thanks again guys!

It's the surprise they don't want.
If you had 100 kids, they'd be more than happy for you to bring them in. In fact, I'm surprised they're not issuing bonus points for larger than average families. |

Hi,
the forms ask for your current partnership status but are not concerned with previous...there's really no need to create extra work for yourself..
Michelle, if your husband has 'legally' adopted your children & you have the relevant papers then there'll be no contact with your ex but you'll have to include original or cert copies of the adoption paperwork with your application.
The reason they want details of other family/children is to cross check future applications, eg if a brother suddenly turned up wanting to emigrate under the family category but wasn't declared on your original form then he'd have problems getting in.. |
