I have seen on the tv news and in the newspapers that the level of net migration was dropping, one commentator even suggested that it was falling heavily, which would affect house prices as demand would reduce.
Does anyone know the background for this fall? From a bit of net searching, I found a suggestion that it was immigrants failing to stay rather than more New Zealanders leaving, in fact more NZers are returning which is offsetting the fall in immigration.
Any ideas anyone? If people are failing to stick it out why? And should we start to think hard about the current house prices |

Based on my friends' accounts, NZ migrants go later to Australia where oppurtunities are better. In the first place, these migrants only used their NZ residence as a stepping stone to move to Australia.
And of course, there is the change in migration policy which hampered some potential settlers to proceed with their plans. |

There are real losses.
Flow on effect of English language changes, Chin and India are well down, and many who were here don't meet backdated requirements. Also factor in loss of language schools, and early effects of NZIS not allowing in peopel with no job offer. Numbers will fall for sure, this will shut up one anti immigration politician who is thorn in Labour's side, so the policy changes also have political implcaitions and the Govt will do little about it until maybe next year I think, after the election????
