Odd topic! but if you are from the UK be aware that you can't just go to the tip.

We missed our first rubbish day this week (had no council bags) so went to the tip today to drop off rubbish. They weigh your car on the way in, you drop off stuff, they weigh you on the way out and then CHARGE you for the difference. Hubby had not even got wallet so had to do a drive through and explain to the guy that we were new to NZ. Minimum Charge is $5. A tonne of rubbish is $88 ish.

You are allowed to drop off up to 3 council bags a week there and any recycling free of charge.

Council do collect rubbish and recyling weekly. They give you a recycling box and 26 bags a year. Extra bags can be purchased, $5ish for 5 bags.
It is a good system but does take some getting used to. The bags are tiny!

It does work though.

Despite being rabid recylclers, my family filled a wheelie bin each week. We now fill 1 or 2 small bags weekly and don't have the hassle of recycling dump trips.

Nice One
