Well guys, as you probably already know, we are off on 21st Sept to Chchurch and we will be looking for an IT (s/w eng) job for my hubby.

We've committed ourselves despite having no job offers to go to.

Our plan? Hubby finishes his current contract in 2 weeks time. This will leave us 2 months or so to sort ourselves out.

- Contact recruitment agencies to discuss current IT job market in Chch and to introduce ourselves
- Finalise CV's - hopefully based on advice and local knowledge gleaned from discussions with recruitment agencies (i.e. particular skills sets required etc)
- Distribute CV's to agencies
- Research local companies
- Research local IT networking groups
- Research professional associations / Canterbury Cluster
- Distribute CV's to local companies with details of intentions and interview availability

I have already spoken to an agent in Chch (back at beginning of the year) who did say that IT jobs were not as readily available there as in, say, Wellington / Auckland but that there was certainly a "growing demand". So that's optimistic....

A friend of ours who lives in Auckland (who is also in the IT industry) has said very recently that we would have "no problem" securing an IT position in Auckland - so, if that is how we have to get into NZ then we may end up there - who knows!

I will keep you up to date with info gleaned from research.... still waiting to chat with the elusive person who has actually GOT a job in IT there Hmmm
