What happens next.. does that enable you to go to NZ and job hunt ? Does it make getting a job easier (i.e. easier for co.'s to employ you) and is there a time limit in which you must secure work?

Do you still have to do work that is relevant to your quals?

Good question Moorf - I don't think that situation has come up very much yet with the level of selection points.

From the bumph I got through when my EOI was selected, my understanding is, those with job offers/skilled employment/NZ qualification will have "demonstrated an ability to settle in and contribute to NZ," and will have their PR approved immediately. If you have been working in skilled employment for less than three months you will be required to stay in that job/similar job for at least three months, you must keep NZIS informed of your address and you must prove to NZIS that within seven months of gaining your PR you have met these conditions. You must take up a job offer within three months of being granted PR.

Those who have gained PR without job offers will need to demonstrate that they have the ability to settle in and contribute to NZ. Apparently they are considered as having the potential to do so. The bumph continues

"A decision on the application will be deferred for a period of up to two years. During that two-year period you may be issued or granted a Work Visa or Work Permit to allow you to demonstrate the ability to settle in and contribute to NZ by establishing yourself in skilled employment.

If the NZIS is satisfied you have become established in ongoing skilled employment in NZ for a period of at least three months during the two-year deferral period, you will be assessed as having demonstrated an ability to settle in and contribute to NZ, and will have your application for residence under the skilled migrant category approved."

It doesn't say, but I would imagine it's an open work visa/permit, meaning that companies have no hoops to jump through before employing you.

As I say, it's only my understanding of the NZIS information, but I would say that it does allow you to go to NZ and job hunt, companies will have no red tape to cut through before employing you and you would have a time limit of two years to secure skilled employment.

With regard to the relevance to your quals, not sure. You would need to check up the information on the criteria for skilled employment. In any case, the employment does have to be skilled, so flipping burgers at MacDonald's wouldn't count!

Good luck,

I have it on very good authority that nzis have made one selection for EOI without a job offer.
Just the one, but it may be the shape of things to come.
