| Another 221 places have been allocated to the SMC for the current financial year. Big deal. |

I think NZ govt. should put the pass mark 150 pts instead of 100...with this kind of pooling points that they've taken, it is just way beyond 100. With the higher pass mark, people will not submit their EOI easily (cause it's not cheap at all to submit). I appologize if my message sounds quite venting.

Hi Xanctus
Don't worry, I think you're only expressing what the rest of us are feeling :o(
I'm in NZ at the moment, and I'm beginning to give serious consideration whether to bother reapplying if/when the current EOIs lapse. If I weren't currently here at the moment, I certainly wouldn't consider applying right now.
I really wonder what will happen once the current EOI lapse, and nobody else applies...
Anyway, let's keep our chins up. This silliness can't go on for ever.

I too think that raising the bar to 150 would be best....there are many of us out there who agonized over getting the last 5 or 10 points to put us around a whopping 115, and now that seems like such a pathetic joke! My husband and I are desperately trying to get things lined up before putting our house on the market, and I would advise anyone NOT LIVING IN NZ already to think looong and hard about entering the pool. Just my humble opinion/vent/bye-bye $$$ fee talking here.

I suppose it is in all our interests as would be migrants just not to apply to enter the pool until the points drop to an achievable level...in a funny kind of way this might help by reducing the number of people in the pool. It would certainly send a clear message to the NZIS about their migrant unfriendly policy...i.e. don't apply to enter the pool until you have enough points to be chosen! Perhaps this is what they want of course to reduce the number of applications...who knows? If it is why not be up front about it?
RANT ON
I think it's been ill thought out from an admin point of view. Certainly if we new how they would be making the selections back in January we would not have entered the pool even with the 170 points that we have. We will end up not being selected in this first three months and will have to apply again...I would put money on it! I think the policy of 100 points to enter the pool is ridiculous at this stage and just builds up false hope. Better to set it at a higher level and then gradually reduce it. The result will be the same i.e. only those with the highest points will be invited to apply....of course they (NZIS) will then miss out on the revenue from those who have only just over 100 points.......of course in the real world this would be thought of as obtaining money under false pretenses!

When you see that they have with drawn out of the pool twice at 185 points it is dishartening. I originally had my residence papers ready for mid November, when they decided to close the applications for residence so they could catch up with the back log of applications. They said the new system would be in place for mid December. When the first pool pull out was end of Feb, I thought is was never going to happen, at this point I could see my Medical and police checks slowly running out, and now they have. I am currently here on a work visa, and my wife and children on visitor visa's, is this something else that is going to run out I ask myself. With the surface of the pool just above my head (175) I'm gasping for air, how much longer is this going to be. Because at the moment NZIS are drowning us all, and all serious applicants will want to stay out of the water and end up going some where else. How many engineers out there score 185 and above without counting their partners scores, I bet theres not many, and engineering is great shortage here however are they going to fill these positions.
Thats it, its out my system now.

Exactly how much and how often do you have to pay to be put in this "draw"?

| The NZIS espects to have about 10.000.000 NZD ( I hope I remember the right number) incomes every year from the people who enter the pool. If they would have set the pool pass mark to 150, for instance, they would have lost a part of this money. |

Hi Moorf,
It cost NZD315 to enter the pool for three months then you have to re-apply to enter again...good scam eh?
I think I might set myself up as a consultant and charge a one off fee....hold all the clients applications until its strategically the right time to apply and then submit them for approval if I charge say half what the NZIS charge to keep a watching brief and send a bi-weekly newsletter to my clients to coincide with selections I could be a very rich man!!!!!! Of course I need PR first..damn! |

I have also just read the immigration web site and I read that the EOI's will be remaining in until June
Not perfect news but better than none. Here is the excerpt.
05/05/05
Withdrawal of Expressions of Interest from the Pool
Usually, unselected Expressions of Interest submitted under the Skilled Migrant Category will remain in the Pool for three months from the date of submission, unless no selection occurs within that period. However, because the selection from the Pool that occurred on 18 February was a preliminary selection only, Expressions of Interest submitted into the Pool before the selection on 3 March 2004 will remain in the Pool for three months from that date (i.e. until 3 June). |
