QUESTIONS....

1. What happens if too many people lodge their application (me included)? Are people with 115 pts guaranteed that they’ll be selected? Is there such thing as volume quota?

2. I have 115pts but my husband and I still have to re-take IELTS since our first one expired last May 2004. Can I submit my EOI with pending IELTS result? What if there is an increase in points by the time my EOI is complete? Will my app be affected?

Well done all on 115 points. Nice One

I've been a bit geeky and had a look at the stats from the last NZIS "EOI discussion paper". A couple of interesting points...

1. The number of applicants with no job offer is 49% with the points level at 115.
But I thought the whole point of the new system was that it was meant to require applicants to have a job in their usual field of work??? Confused
Back to the days of over-qualified taxi drivers and burger flippers?? Laughing
Either way, seems that the new SMC isn't really doing what it was designed to do!

2. The proportion of applicants from the UK is down to 31% on 115 points...it was as high as 50-60% earlier in the year.
I presume this is something to do with applicants from certain countries being "frozen out" earlier in the year because they didn't get work experience points (labour market not deemed comparable). With the limit set that much lower, these points are no longer needed to get EOI accepted.

Moorf-I don't think there is a time limit imposed to get a job. Once you've got PR, you've got it!! Neither does your job NEED to be in your usual line of work.
(By the way, 6% of applications were rejected after the "Points Verification" stage)

Good luck all,
Graham

Thanks Graham - good info...

Does that mean we can go on PR and continue to run our current company with no check ups over the years etc ?

Great news if that is the case!

Hi everyone,

I feel I must apologise... there's me saying the points were at 120, when in fact they were 115, sorry to anyone who was disappointed by my message, but hey 115, thats even better. to all the brummies out there, I live in Lea Marston, which is just off jct 9 of the M42, and classes as Sutton Coldfield. The reason I was still up at 2am was I figured it was already August 4th in NZ, so I reasoned the decision would be on the website and lo and behold, there it was!
Couldn't sleep afterwards anyway, too excited.
Congrats to everyone, (especially those on 115pts Embarassed )

Hi Moorf,

My best guess is that if you've got enough points for PR without a job, you can do pretty much whatever you want (employee, run own business, etc) when you get there.

Another reason for more champagne??
