First off I'd like to say 'Hi' and thanks to everyone who's added to this forum. It's been great reading and I've learnt loads Clapping

Now for a stupid question Nutcase

My husband is a service engineer, basically he repaires t.v.'s, vidoe's, hi-fi's, that sort of thing. He's been in the trade for over 25 years, but as we're becoming more 'throw away' in the u.k. there's not much business about. His qualification is on the 'OSL', but I've been unable to find anything to help him find a job.
I assume people get these type of things fixed in NZ, or do people throw away and buy new most of the time like here ?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Cheers Nice One

Hi milliemoon, it's good to hear from you. Smile

New Zealand is definitely far less throw-away than the UK. In my experience, people are much less inclined to throw things out here because they don't work. They will either try to repair them themselves, failing which they will get them repaired or sell them off cheaply to someone who can repair them.

My impression here is also that second-hand appliances are more commonly bought in second-shops than in the U.K.

I've also seen quite a few of the larger non-second-hand shops offering part-exchange terms on old washing-machine or freezers or whatever if you're buying a new one.

Hi JMC

Thanks very much for the reply.

Having read a thread from someone else on here about finding work for her husband as a carpenter, I followed the links and got in touch with a company in ChCh doing the same thing as mine.

I've had a reply back saying they are keen to offer him a job or if he's interested, possibly a partnership Clapping

Now we really have some talking to do Nutcase

Cheers Nice One
