Hi, martwend,
Just curious.. did you bring in any of the "forbidden" items? That is, feathers, wicker, etc? If you did, I'm just curious about how concerned they were about these things. If you didn't, I'll bring mine and then let everyone know what they did about it!
Thanks for your insights.
All the best, Rae |

Some of you may have read my postings on my own shipment with Brittania. Hence why my parents things arrived last week from anglo pacific. Everything is well packed and nothing broken except the TV. This appears to have been dropped. It is insured so now we will find out what the service is like from the marine insurance that they offer. |

Well my parents have put in their claim for the nice widescreen they brought with them. There is all sorts of damage to the inside and basicly its knackered. You would think that being as it worked when it left and that it doesnt now that Anglo pacific would be paying out on the insurance. This is not the case... apparently it is classed as 'mechanical derangement'.
So be warned if you are bringing well loved electricals to read the small print carefully, as the nice man who does the quote doesnt tell you that it can be thrown off the crate and your not covered if the damage is inside.
My quest goes on the for a shipping company that actually looks out for their customers. I have another shipment to do in the next couple of weeks due to a death in the family. Who shall we brave it with next I wonder!! |

Sounds to me as though the problem is not so much with the shipping co. but with shipping co. insurance cover. Do you have to insure through the shipping agent, or can you shop around ? |

You can shop around but I am getting the feeling that all of them will wriggle out of paying if they can.
Well worth grilling the person who gives the quote. If they had said that the TV would only be covered for the outer casing then my folks would have sold it for a few hundred and saved a few pounds off their shipping bill. Instead they have no TV and paid to ship a worthless one.
Hope their experience stops someone else who's reading this thread from having this happen though.
Good luck! |

Hello Andy
I'm not sure that I would accept what Anglo Pacific are saying regarding the TV. I would be tempted to challenge them, appealing to a higher authority if necessary. Could possibly be a case of misselling of the insurance policy, after all if you insure a tv you insure it as a whole and not just the casing.
We have decided not to bring our main tv, its too big and not exactly new, however we will be bringing a flatscreen we have in the bedroom. We are using Crown Relocations for our move, I will be reading the smallprint on the insurance cover today.
Otherwise how are your parents settling in?

Quoting Anglo "Unfortunately we cannot provide any form of cover for items that have suffered electrical and or mechanical derangement during the move process, had there been visible external damage to the television, then it would have been a different matter."
Yeah they are settling well, its a big move when you are getting on in life.
They were lucky with jobs and housing, but not the TV!!! |

Hi all -
How much (approx) does an average container cost. I've heard of £200 cheaper than competitors etc... but not heard any actual prices. Can somebody (DARE) tell me the real price. Hopefully less than £2k. |

Hi David,
We have had two quotes for moving our stuff from here in Wigan, over to Hawkes Bay, and they both came in at around £2700.
This was for a twenty foot container, and included them packing and protecting everything, which in it self, they estimated to be about two days work, and unpacking and removing packaging at the other end.
This price however does not include insurance which is charged, if required, at 3% of the value of the contents. (not the shipping cost)
These insurance policies are not that great, and they will only normally pay out for physical damage or loss. PC's and other electrical goods that don't work at the other end will not be covered unless visible damage can be seen.
There are cheaper ways of shipping your things over like sharing a container if you don't think you need a full one, and I believe there are options of Packing and unpacking your own, but I would check this out with the shipping companies. |

Just to update you. I have contacted Crown re Mechanical Derangement. They charge an extra 0.25%.
We are looking into splitting everything and taking out two insurance policies. One to cover electrical inc Mechanical Derangement, second non electrical items without extra. |
