Any advice / info on how to calculate the value of your possessions for shipping insurance? eg we've got approx 600 books, 80 odd DVD's, nearly 400 CD's...... To put a value of even £5 each adds up to a small fortune , but if the ship went down we couldn't replace them for that value
What to do??! |

I would also welcome some advice please. Don't have 600 books though
91 cubic feet estimate - cost £599. Not a lot really mainly personal stuff, clothes, CD's, ornaments, pictures etc. |

Itemise your most valuable possesions and put "true replacement values" on those items. Total the value of all listed "really worth insuring....can't live without" items. Now once you have done that you can decide to insure only those items you have listed or add to it any remaining items.
Remaining items could be grouped with an average value per DVD/CD for example using the logic that if one goes they all go and at least you will get something back!
Read the small print of you policies and you will find that electrical items and sets etc are not covered for a series of risks unless you have taken out "extra" insurance. If you do undravlue your items a loss adjuster will write down any calim you make so be careful! Also take photos of your most valuable items pre sailing as a record of their condition pre packing and sailing.
V high value items should travel with you if possible eg we bought the laptop, jewelry, software backups, cameras, digicam, personal docs, etc with us on the aircraft.
Hope this helps I know its a minefield!
