Hi,

we are a young couple from Sweden, both 27 years old. I study to become a Molecular Biologist, i think the degree i get when I am finished is a Masters degree in NZ standards.
He doesnt have any higher education but we are considering to let him study something once I am finished (2y left), right now I study and he supports me financially. Once I am done it might be a good idea for him to get some university degree while I work and support us instead.

That should take 2-4 years after which we were planning to emigrate.
I have always been fascinated by NZ and I have always wanted to move there, somehow it feels that I belong there. Like I was born and lived there in my previous life(lives). I know, its quite a silly thing to say coming from an soon to be finished scientist but thats how it feels.

We both speak very good english, I speak beside that swedish, german, italian, portugese and my native bosnian. (I've always had an ear for languages) He speaks swedish, german and his native finnish.

I have been looking around on the web for information about emigration to NZ and I must say that I have been thoroughly discuraged.

We really want to move from Sweden and start a family and a completely new life in NZ (in a few years) but do we even stand a chance? Should we even bother?

What would we have to do to increase our chances of being accepted?

We are both healthy, visit the nearby gym on a extremely regular basis, I am a health freak when it comes to eating, my boyfriend always complains that its too much vegetables and to little meat on the menu. =)

Is it better if both have university degrees or is it ok if only one has it?
My boyfriend doesn't really like the idea to go back to school for another few years but he would do it if it were necessary, he wants this as much as I do.

What more is required?

Thanks in advance
A.

An interesting post that.

All the answers to the questions you pose can be obtained at http://www.immigration.govt.nz/ which is the NZ immigration service website.

You could apply to the New Zealand Qualification Authority for assessment of your degree to see how many points you get. In truth the difference between Masters and Bachelors is only 5 points though. Your partner's qualifications would count for 10 additional points (bachelor's degree or above)

It sounds like you might be short of work experience. Why not try and get a job offer in New Zealand? this will give you loads of points and you could go for up to 3 years (or more) on a work visa. Nice One

Best of luck.

Rob
