Hi I'm a divorced single mum of two (aged 7 & 9) considering emigrating to NZ. I've been told that work should be easy to aquire as I am a mental health staff nurse and I've been given some locations to check out where there are jobs available from a NZ nursing organisation (Blenheim, Wanganui, NewPlymouth, Palmerston North, Napier/Hastings, Tauranga, Hamilton and Whangarei). Can anyone please point me in the right direction re further information gathering on these areas?. My main areas of concern are unsurprisingly regarding my children (education, health, environment and child care). Any info will be greatly appreciated tyvm, Tash |

Hi Tash,
You've probably already seen them, but there are a couple of comments about Wanganui and Palmerston North here:

From the towns you've named I'd be inclined to head for Blenheim or Tauranga - both have deserved reputations for being warm and sunny. Blenheim will be a touch drier if you don't like the rain. Both have a reputation for being pleasant towns to live in.
No mention of the main cities? Unless you're willing to go private for education, the best schools (and healthcare) tend to be in the cities.

Hi Tash
You're not alone... I'm a lone parent (one of 12 and two biggies who will stay here for a while) planning to leave for NZ when I finish my PhD early next year. It makes sense for me as it means I can afford to get us out of rented accomodation and all the insecurities, and probably be able to afford private education. Check out the thread "Why?" as I've been chatting to a teacher on there, who's brother teaches in NZ. His comments will be useful for you.
