Hey Rimbo
Thats what we did, cashed in a endowment, took a month off work and went for it. We all went and took the kids to see if we all liked it. Have left hubby over there for now, as I came back to sort out renting out our house. That is the hard bit, being apart is hard for all of us.
Hubby is a welder, and has his city and guilds, but no uni qualifications. Welding is on the OSL so I dont know if it made any difference, but once we were over there getting the job was the easy bit.
There were many things we could have spent that money on, but we felt it was important to try to follow our dream, we didnt want to look back with regrets. |

Here, here.
My wife (the brave one) thinks exactly the same and with work here being so awfull at the moment we too are ready to risk all.
i've started applying for jobs again and hopefully i will make a few connections, then i'm buying a ticket.
If i don't get a job, it's plan B.
Sell the house, cars cash in Savings etc.
buy a boat sail around the world until the money runs out (after i've learnt how to drive a boat! ok ok, i mean sail!)
when i come back, i can get a council house and live of the fat of the English tax payer, well, most others take that attitude.
but seriously, that is a big step to take and we're willing to do it. how long has he been there? is he getting any headway and will he get a temp work visa or wtr or EOI? so many questions

Strangley enough, that was our plan B also.
He has been on his own for about 2 months now, hopefully we will be able to join him soon. He loves his job, completly different work ethic over there. At the moment we only have a work visa, when we went over in May we the points were still too high, but the plan is to apply for residency as soon as the kids and me are back. |

Is work to residence an option under the talent employers thing. if someone gives you a job over $45,000 then you work towards getting residency in 2 years time - an option for those without qualifications and points. if you both get jobs, outside auckland, and have the one with most work experience/lowest age (depending on what gets highest points) become main applicant then you may well have enough points. I imagine this route as the one for those who are talented enough to earn big bucks (you are already so your chances may be good in NZ) but don't have qualifications (the 'university of life' as it's known).
This is my first attempt at answering a question, and not asking one!!
