Hi all.....I am an englishman living in southern california for the last 20 years, i am married with 2 children and am looking to get out of the US as i believe this country is in some serious trouble,(this is no longer the land of opportunity).
i have done OK for myself over the years and if i sold everything up and cashed in i would have close to $400,000 US i think that gets me approx 580,000 NZ dollars.
does anyone know the rules and regs of coming to NZ and purchasing a business i have looked online and have seen some for sale which seem quite reasonable
also if i was to purchase a home how difficult is that
and lastly is there some kind of private Medical insurance available as both my kids are diabetic and i wouldnt expect the state/country to pay for thier supplies etc
i am sure to have lot of questions but will start with just these, if anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated
regards Garth

From reading other posts on the forum I think the sticking point for many would-be business migrants is that immigration regulations are making it tougher and tougher. I think just now you only can apply to run a business here that you already have experience of running in your home country.

Hi

The NZIS website - www.immigration.govt.nz has full details.

For what you ask, try this document: http://www.immigration.govt.nz/NR/rdonlyres/1A8A6742-5B36-4916-BB86-47392A87A98C/0/nzis1059.pdf

which is the guide for business applications.

Now might not be a bad time to apply if you qualify as the US dollar probably won't stay down too long.

You could also phone a health insurer here to see if they would take on your business. In youth, diabetes should be inexpensive to manage in any case - see the health forum for more posts on the costs of healthcare.

Best of Luck. Rob
