Can anybody shed some light on theses suburbs of Auckland:
Papatoetoe, Dannemora and Botany Downs. Been offered job in Manakau City. Any info on other suburbs would be appreciated also.

Hi Kim,
Haven't seen Papatotoe myself but its part of Otahuhu which is just South of Auckland City itself. From what I've heard and read...a very multiracial suburb of Auckland. particularly Pacific Island and some Asian
PROS:
Relatively cheap houses, good transport links in/out of city, close to Manukau centre for shopping
CONS:
Has its fair share of rough areas. Perhaps rent first to get a good view of the area before buying.
I've actually been to Dannemora and Botany Downs, last year although a bit of a flying visit so others might be able to give more detail than me...a new-ish part of Manukau City quite close to Howick to the East of Auckland. Looked a nice area, very clean and tidy, quite a few shopping precincts...but somewhat more expensive to buy here than Papatotoe. A bit further away from the main transport routes as well.
Maukau is quite a large area of Auckland, and the East side of it is very different to the South. Depending on where you are actually working...worth looking at Pakuranga??

It would probably be a good idea if we in UK could get hold of a copy of an A-Z of Auckland.
What I've done is printed out "squares" of Auckland from the Wises website, you can see where the different suburbs are in relation to each other and judge your potential commute. |
