Karl - what a great link - thanks! http://www.superbank.co.nz/
Have been emailing with the bank as this 6% int rate is excellent - was particularly interested to see what their max amount to deposit was because putting our house profit into this account would give us an income that would pay for rental etc whilst we are out in NZ!!!
You do need to have a NZ bank account though - any suggestions or should we just go for the national bank?
Here is reply from Superbank for info if anyone is interested:
| Quote: | Thank you for your email enquiry.
Our criteria for the SuperSaver account is that you must provide an existing New Zealand bank account that is in your name.
The SuperSaver account is a phone and internet based Savings account. To withdraw from this account you transfer via phone or internet back to your nominated account. The nominated account is an account in your name that you hold with another bank. Details of this account will be advised to us when your SuperSaver account is opened.
However, if you do not have an existing New Zealand bank account that is in your name, we also have a transactional account called the SuperAccess that has a flat fee of $7.99 per month if your balance is maintained above $1,000, $10.99 per month if your balance is less than $1,000. This includes unlimited transactions, with the only other fees being ATM fees of 50c per transaction and dishonour fees.
You will receive a debit card for ATM and Eftpos transactions and or cheque book (credit criteria applies).
This way you will be able to link your SuperSaver and SuperAccess together, and transfer funds instantly between the two accounts, and earn 6.00%pa on your savings account which is calculated daily and paid monthly.
If you have any further queries in regards to the above or in general please do not hesitate to contact us via email or phone us on 64 4 931 2085 between 8am-9pm 7days a week (NZ time). |

Hi Moorf...glad to be of service..I'm opening my Superbank account next week.
I am with ASB but sadly cannot recommend them as a good bank! Hopefully this is confined to my local branch who appear to be a bunch of dimwits who dissappoint me regularly! Everything started well but the personal service just isn't there. A lot of Ozzie banks are losing clients to smaller kiwi banks like BNZ. The National is worth trying and has an assocaition with LLoyds TSB in the UK as I am sure you are aware.
Heres another tip for you though before you sign up with a bank. Put the screws on for them to give you a credit card. Most will only do this for PR's but I basically said to ASB you either give me a line of credit or lose a half million dollar deposit and any future mortgage business I might have. Result, credit card issued within a week.
I mention this because you can then use this card for ALL your purchases and only transfer across to you bank account the sum needed to cover your CC account. This leaves the vast majority of your funds at a higher interest rate and also has given you 30 days free credit into the bargin. As interest is calculated daily this adds up to a few extra bucks per month out of which you can buy me a pint! |

Oh Yes! Nearly forgot...if you use the CC insted of ATM cards you don't keep paying all thos 50c ATM charges! Which allows you to buy me yet another drink! |

Perhaps I should be more specific about insuring money. By that I mean are your funds once deposited into a bank protected against fraud or embezlement.
In America banks display a sign showing that the bank has purchased insurance through the government that protects your financial assets from anything. I beleieve that they garuntee $100k Not currently having a $100k in the bank, it has not been a concern.
Once I sell the house however..... |
