Hi there
Been reading various articles on what not to take and what to definitely take to NZ and most seem to say take EVERYThING - even the kettle!"
Now, few questions:
) If taking washing machine does cost of taking it outweigh the cost of buying new?
2) Would electronic / electrical appliances require potentially expensive modifications?
3) Hoovers etc have to go through a quarantine - and not sure if dyson avaialble there - so do i take it?
4) Furniture / sofa's etc - leave these here and flog them or take them?
By the looks of it most rented accomm is unfurnished and we do intend to purchase.
Just don't know what to do!

Hi Moorf,
We started down the route by finding out how much it will cost to take everything. 20' container costing around 2990 plus marine insurance. (PSS International)
Then we worked out what we would fit into it and came to the conclusion we would take the 4 sofas, dining table etc etc etc..
Electronic goods apart from the TVs, videos and DVDs should be ok, even the PC. the TV's Videos and DVD players will need to be multi region (we recently bought our DVD player as this and it only cost an extra 10 pounds) or you will need to convert them over there.
At the end of the day, if you are having a 20 foot container for yourself, stash everything in there you can. Dump the rest !! hahahaa
PSS international will inform you of all the appropriate things to do before storage such as steam cleaning all your gardening tools, bicycles etc..

Hi
I would say definitely take the Dyson. They are so expensive here. Just make sure that it is empty. We were very comprehensive on our list of items to be given to customs and we had no trouble. The list of problem areas is available eg no bamboo, no seeds, dried flowers etc and the customs appreciate it if you seem to know the areas of concern. We made sure that the bikes and outdoor toys are hosed down and clean. The customs inspector was saying that it was amazing how many came across covered in mud!
If you are taking a container, then is seems pointless to leave any space as it costs the same whatever. You can always sell any stuff that you don't want when you get here but having to buy loads of items on top of trying to settle in is a nightmare |
