Hi all,
My husband and I have already set our minds on moving to NZ soon. We started working on our application early last year. Currently, my husband (principal applicant) has 115 points. This is surely not enough to compete with those who already have job offer. We are now seriously thinking of just going there on a holiday visa then scout for an employer. Honestly, this scares me.
Now, can you pls help me figure out his chances of getting a job there. He is 41 yrs old and a mechanical engineer (specializing in plant maintenance). Is 2 weeks enough for job search?
Thanks.

PS....
My husband sent his resume to 20 companies. So far, more than 50% denied his application bec. he doesn't have a permit. |

Hi there
Were in the same predicament as you, my better half is a multi skilled engineer with heaps of experience in plant maintainence. We have had the same response as you,we have applied for loads of positions which have been declined, and not to sound big headed, if he had apllied for the same positions in england the companies would have jumped at his experience.
We are considering going over on a visitors visa and hoping we will find work but its so scary not having the job security to fall back on.
Hope it works out for you

I work for a subsidiary of a global organisation, and just by asking the question, I am delighted to say that things have really snowballed and moved far faster than I ever imagined. I have managed to get a tentative promise of a job offer, when the next vacancy arises. Perhaps you could try similarly large organisations who are represented in NZ. They might just be willing to help you.
Good Luck! |
