A job offer with an accredited employer enables you to apply for a work permit under the "work to residence policy".

Once you've been working for that employer for 2 years you can apply for residence.

Please can someone tell me:

1. How do you apply for residence after two years? i.e. do you still have to do the Expression of interest thing? If not how do you actually go about making an application for residence?

2. Can you submit an EOI before the 2 years is up

All comments gratefully received!

Thanks

Hi Deb

I have a work to residence visa - I am moving to NZ at the end of the month to start work as a nurse. Yes, you can submit EOI as same time - in fact my EOI has just been selected from the pool and I am awaiting invite for residence now. So can apply for both at same time. Re applying for residence at end of 2 years...I understand that you submit an EOI and as long as meet basic criteria under work to residence policy then residence almost guaranteed. hope this helps. good luck!

At the end of the 2yrs you don't need to submit an EOI, you simply complete a residence application form. As long as you still meet the original requirements (min $45K, accredited employer etc) then you're in! No need for points or anything..

...but yes, you can also try through the SMC at any time.

Hello there,

New to this forum so pls excuse my sometimes silly questions.

I'd like to know how you got your job in NZ - did you go over and stay there and job hunt whilst on a visitors visa or did you apply and do all thru the UK?

What visa do you need to get to look for and start a job - just Work Permit? At the moment we are going via an emigration consultant but is this necessary if we can secure a job off our own backs (hubby is in I.T which I believe is a priority occupation. We intend our destination to be Christchurch or Dunedin.

Our emigration consultant said he would provide us with a Letter of Introduction whch basically says we are going thru visa application and that this would mean employers would be more interested in interviews etc.

Basically we are at that stage where we don't know what to do next!!

House is sold - moving my another of our properties in Sussex whilst paperwork being done.

Any advice welcome
Thanks Mr. Green

My Husband is also in I.T, he arrived in NZ a week ago. He applied for jobs whilst in the UK explaining that he would be in NZ available for interview from the 1st March.
The response has been overwhelming and they not at all put off that he doesn't have a work permit yet.
All they ask for is assurance that you are commited to NZ and that you have no reasons for returning to the UK.

Hi Rebecca

Sounds v. promising for you and your husband - which area is he having interviews in or are you prepared to start anywhere in NZ.

Did he apply direct to potential employers or did he go via a recruitment agency.

fingers crossed for his interviews... keep us posted.

Hi Moorf

He are looking mainly at Auckland as we have family there, but some of the offers have been for jobs in Hamilton.

Almost all of the jobs that Nige applied for were through recruitment agencies because all the major companies tend to use them, but a few were directly with the companies.

Definatley try the seekIT website.

One of the companies has offered him a position higher than the one he went for, so we're just waiting for salary details. They are also helping him with his work permit application.

We just can't believe how quick it's all happened. Myself and our daughter weren't meant to be going over till the middle of next month, to allow him plenty of time to find employment. Looks like I might be going sooner fingers crossed

Good luck in your search, I'm sure you'll be fine.

Hi guys,

Well Nige has been offered the job of manager to the position he applied for, which was nice!!

Went to immigration this morning to apply for his work permit, and it was ready by lunch time!! That's service for you. So he starts his new job on Monday.

I fly over with our daughter on April 6th, and we are ready to start our new life in Auckland. Simple as that!! (and to think we were panicing).

Good luck all!!

Rebecca that is amazing - all the very best to you.

Now the house hunting begins?

I am new to the forum so I haven't seen your original postings - would you be so kind as to give me a brief timeline of events?

We are going to NZ in May/June for a month and will, of course, be arranging job interviews during that time for my hubby who is in I.T.

Our emigration consultant is giving us a "letter of introduction" which, they say, will satisfy the potential employers that we are in the process of visa application. Has anyone heard of this before?

Do you think that one month will be enough time to get enough interviews and also suss out the areas? We have decided on Christchurch or Dunedin and have no desire to work in Wellington or Auckland.

What visa did your husband go over on to attend interviews - was he asked by employers what visa he was on? Have been told that you can't go for interviews with a normal visitor visa .....

Sorry, I'm rambling....

We have already sold our house (tookd 2 days... fate? wasn't even on the market and someone knocked on door asking if we would sell!!) and moving to a flat in Sussex that I usually rent out (its just become empty recently .. .fate?!). From there we can use this as our base and its alot cheaper on the mortgage than our 4 bed place here in Perthshire!!!

We have no kids, no ties (except family whom we shall miss obviously).
So we think this is our time to go.

Anyway, congrats again Clapping and please keep us informed during your move!

Regards
Moorf
