I have been working towards starting a teaching course ( I have a degree in Spanish & 2 nearly school age children) however we are now seriously considering emigrating to NZ. I really want to teach, is there any point in completing an ESOL or TEFL course in the UK or should I wait until we get to NZ? as I am unconvinced of the relevance of spanish in NZ

Hi ps,

Language schools were booming a couple of years ago with many Chinese students (and other nationalities) coming here to learn English. NZ was a low cost option for language training compared with the USA or UK. A combination of factors, not least of which is the strength of the NZ$, has resulted in a contraction of the language school market - a number of language schools have gone bankrupt. So now is probably not the ideal time to look for ESOL or TEFL work here. Spanish is an increasingly popular subject in Secondary Schools (I think - I'm not entirely sure.)
