Hi all.
This is my first contribution to the forum, although my wife and I have been keeping an eye on it for the last few weeks.
I'm a UK Physics teacher who has just been offered a job in an private Auckland boarding school. Razz Although I have taught for nine years (in independent schools), I needed a teacher training qualification to do this, so I have just completed a PGCE through the Open University.
I am therefore about to do battle with the NZQA and Teacher Registration Board to enable us to move out.
Has anyone out there been through this process as I would be very grateful for any advice/hints for getting it right first time around. My brother went through the same process a year ago (he's in Dargaville), and found NZQA and TRB seemed to be trying to make it as hard as possible for him!
I am also a bit concerned whether they will accept my PGCE for registration. fingers crossed I did not need to complete the whole course (took about six months or so) because of my past experience. This might mean they may not accept it as being suitable for NZ teaching (although it's fine for UK!!).

Any advice gratefully received!!
Graham

Hi Graham,

I'm hoping to teach maths in NZ. Sorry that I can't help with any of your specific questions. I've heard that the TRB can be quite slow (many weeks) about registrations both for overseas people and Kiwis.

Hi Ian,

I think TRB take 4-6 weeks, which I don't have because I will need to give notice at my current school before then!! Confused
I've decided to e-mail them to see what they might be able to say in principle fingers crossed ...but I suspect they'll just say that I will have to wait to make a formal application. I 'phoned them up a year ago when I was deciding which teaching course to take, and found them spectacularly unhelpful!
Anyway, we live in hope.....

Graham
