Hi I'm new to this site and so far I have gained more info in the last two days from all your mails than from anywhere else.
We are at the very start of everything and had just finished filling in our EOI form when we heard how high the selection was we only have 105 points !
After looking at all the recent postings it sounds like we will be better off trying to get a work visa and do it that way.
My husband is in telecoms and we want to go to auckland, does anyone know which of the main companies are baised here so we can target them first in the job hunt ?
Also are there any other at home mums out there with littleies my son is one and I was wandering how good the playgroups/nurseries are ? |

Hello Eleke. Theres a company i,ve had a few dealings with called Elan IT. The lady i dealt with was out of Christchurch. e-mail address is
heidi.griffiths@elanit.co.nz Hope its of use
These always hays montrose who work out of auckland & wellington.
I'm still trying to get a job to get a work permit/visa but will have to go out on a holiday & have interviews i think. I know it's working round the system but it's the only way. The usual catch 22 situation of no job without permit/visa & no permit/visa without job!!! Good luck!! |

Hi Elekie,
Child care is great in Nz with man options available and its about 1/3rd of the cost of the UK!!!!!
Telecoms compamies based in Auckland are plentiful try www.yellowpages.co.nz and type intelecommunication services or telecommunication consultants, three pages full in the Auckland Yellow Pages!
I'm a house husband for a few months and I am checking out our childcare options...so far I'm very impressed with what I have seen. |

Hi Elekie
Torbay is about 30 mins drive up the coast from Devonport. Why Devonport.....a lovelly place but very expensive and will cost a bomb to find a large section it's pretty much fully developed as an older suburb of AK. A lot of new build is taking place in Albany but I wouldn'y choose to live there. If you ant land and plenty of it try dairy flat or Okura for a rural atmosphere or Orewa which is 39-45 mins from AK CBD but beware of the bridge. My advice get a job first before commiting to buying! You have so many options from beaches to bush, rural to city/towny suburbs. What are you looking for??? I'll try to point you in the right direction!!! You can also buy older properties on large sections which need development. You can but fairly cheap, subdivide, build, move from the original house into the new one and knock down the one you first started with and rebuild or renovate! Check out www.open2view.com for some market prices. |

hi Karl
sorry last post wasn't too clear charlie was trying to pull out the computer leads while I was typing
Are dream is to build our own house and also one or two cottages that we can run as holiday lets. Chris will carry on working for a few years so we can get it all set up then we hope we will be able to make enough money to run it as a family.
The question is where to do this, Chris will have to work in the city so I'm asking everyone I know about the different areas they are in to get an overall idea on places. I know that quite a lot of people have moved to browns bay /torbay from the uk and just wanted to know what the area was like ?
We realy love Waiheke Island but sections are going through the roof at the mo
Have ordered where to live in Auckland book but it is taking forever to get here so any advice would be great |

Hi Elekie
I would suggest you give serious consideration to the whangaparoa peninisula, Waitakere Ranges and perhaps the Upper East Coast Bays. These will all give you close proximity to AKL for commuting...for a short while but are far enough away to give you a chilled life style. As a point of interest a Motel is up for sale or redevelopment just up the road from us. If you are considering the AKL area you should also consider the corporate hospitality angle! Their's plenty of land available but prices are shooting up and as with everything in the property game location is the key to sucess particularly with holiday lets. Why not try long term rental properties or student accomodation for the universities? There are tax advantages to this if its handled correctly. You can make sure that on paper you make a loss and deduct this from you income to avoid tax and make your money on the appreciation of the property value?....just a thought! |

So if my hubby gets in with a job offer, can we still purchase a B&B or motel for ME to run - even having never done it before?
