Sorry to disappoint you Silversmith but they are only valid for three months and a police report 6 months. Moral....do nothing until you're invited to apply except getting the police reports they last 6 months and only cost a nominal £10.00 in the UK. Mr. Green

Thanks for the infor Karlsmith,

One more question that i was wondering you could help me with, one you have sucessfully obtained your residency, how long do you have to use it and move out there, is there a time limit on this and it becomes void if not taken?

Hi Silversmith,

Once upon a time, I was surfing on the internet and I read that you have one year to get to NZ after getting your PR.
I 'm sorry I can't remember where I've read it, but I 'm sure I did.
Don 't beat me if I'm wrong. whip

Good luck, Lesly.

Hi Silversmith

Good question..Under the old rules you would indeed have 12 months to decide however, the new system is heavily weighted towards those already having an offer of skilled employment and if you are one of these and are offered residency you only have 3 months to accept the offer before it is lapsed. The following link contains the info you require, refer to the section on requirements of residence.

http://www.immigration.govt.nz/Template/NZISGeneralContent.aspx?NRMODE=Published&NRORIGINALURL=%2fMigrate%2fAbouttheSkilledMigrantCategory%2ehtm&NRNODEGUID=%7b214FB01B-A42E-4B86-9903-6CB8663FA4C9%7d&NRCACHEHINT=Guest#process

Hope this helps

Thanks Karlsmith, your knowledge of this area immense, i salute you!
If i could pose a follow on question it would help me out a lot.
Has the application procedure changed for those applicants who are applying under the family category? I have an NZ passport, my partner does not, we are not married so have to apply using my background. The NZIS talks about providing evidence that our relationship is genuine and carrying on - any ideas what sort of eveidence they are talking about, im guessing joint bank accounts, mortgage etc? And secondly how far back in time does this evidence have to go?

Hi Silversmith,

You must provide evidence of a stable de-facto relationship over a period of greater than 12 months. This can be done by showing bills in joint name or at the same address if not joint bills or accounts, mortgage documents and wills if dated and in place greater than 12 months and lodged with a solicitor.

Read the QA section of this link for further info....I don't think this will be a problem to you......if so..dare I ask if marraige out of the question!

Hi Karl

We "spoke " a while ago, just after the 12 November mess-up - the day I arrived at NZ House 12 hours to late for the skills category!! We had our medicals done in preparation on 16 Oct, therefore, will expire on 16 Jan 04. From a previous post, you explained about NOT paying out again for new ones and possibley Dr verifying them again. Noted that new SMC does say it may be flexible with those who had got caught out by 12 Nov.

I am sending in my EOI this week and wonder if I need to do anything about the medicals, like ringing the Dr. who did it?? Or, do I do nothing and hope that if I get picked from the pool, then I can ask if these medicals can be used or not?? Trouble is that the first pool pickup will be end Jan/early Feb and by then expired - any suggestions gratefully received?? Hmmm

Thanks

Ruth fingers crossed

What are the fees for submitting an expression of interest - is it NZ$315? If that's right, then I notice they jump up to $465 after January 31 unless you complete it online....

So, do I just convert it to US$?

Thx

Hi Ruth,

Our application was submitted yesterday by special delivery. I enclosed a covering letter emphasising this very point. I would recommend that anyone submitting and application mentions this fact. We repeated our medicals on 11/11/03 the day before the closure but had to wait a week to get the X-Ray results returned! I think anyone in this position has a very good case and it is not in NZIS's interest to be too strict on this. I personally think they should allow a period of grace of say 3-6 months past the expiry date of current medicals to atone for their conduct! What does eveyone else think? Should they be lobbied to clear this point up?

Hi Bigshotla,

Submission fee is NZ$315.00 until End of Jan 2004 when NZIS open to on-line applications which are still NZ$315.00. Paper applications are then charged at NZ$465.00, probably to allow for and immigration officers time in entering your info onto a database for the selection process. When submitting your application use a credit card if possible..its the simplest and safest way. Fill in the form in either NZ$ or US$ and the credit card company will automatically convert it and show this as a foreign currency voucher on your statement using the exchange rate on the day of transaction. I have found it cheaper than bank drafts etc. for small amounts.

Hi Karl

Many thanks for that. I have completed the EOI today and written a covering letter explaining about the medicals expiry date etc and asked if there will be any flexibility for those of us who tried to submit for the old category.

Although you mention Special Delivery - I have been advised by the PO that to guarantee delivery & get signature etc (like our UK special delivery service) I need to send it via International Data Post to NZ. Is that what you used? I am sending it in the morning, so I hope you are on the board tonight! fingers crossed

Cheers
Ruth

Hi Silversmith, the NZIS site seems a bit all over the place, so I can't help with where Karl found the link. There is a link here:

http://www.immigration.govt.nz/Migrate/#sadfp

The link is about one third of the way down the page under the bold heading:

Partnership Policy Q&A

Hi Ruth,

Can't believe I've been so stupid...we sent it to London but it should be sent to WELLINGTON.

Everyone else take note. Although the address appears on the back of the EOI sheet as Wellington we understood from other info in guidance notes that local offices could receive them!! OOPPS!

Ours will either be redirected or returned to us! More delays!!!! Anyway nothing will happen until the end of Jan anyway so it's retreivable!
