Hi Karl

At least you know that your EOI will have arrived safely at NZ House London by Special Delivery. Presumably they will put in the bag for Wellington for you???

But hey Karl, at least it has saved you a packet. Posted mine today by International Datapost (guaranteed delivery date & signature at Wellington) and it cost...............................£42
I repeat £42........!!!! For EOI, cover letter & cheque!!! Certainly hope we both get picked from pool - our points are good , like yours,I think.

Your error is easy to do - although I had also read the EOI intructions to send to Wellington team, when I tried to double-check by ringing NZIS helpline here - the lady was confusing as she was getting mixed up between the differing categories. I think all other applications for various visas etc can be handled at London, but this SMC EOI is being initially administered in NZ.

Ah well, at least we know our apps are now in, with plenty of time
Cheers
Ruth

Someone here mentioned calling a help line - where did you find that info? Is it through the consulate?

So we have a conundrum. I started to fill out the EOI form on behalf of me and my husband because my career (film & television) has been on an upward track for over 10 years, and is on the NZ list of Identified Future Growth areas. However, I just found out my qualification (Diploma in Film & Television Production) is NOT recognized. If my husband fills out the form, his degree (although recognized) is in Philosophy and is different from his career as a professional freelance television writer.

So - which is worse? An unrecognized qualification, or a freelance career that's different from one's education? Or, do I bite the bullet and pay to have my qualification assessed (NZ$450!!). Or, I suppose....get a job offer (though I'd hoped to at least get the EOI in!).

I need a guide through this maze....

Hi bigshotla,
Is it the NZQA's official verdict?

Hi could someone explain how the work to residency program works?
I am considering an EOI but I have only got 110 points.
It appears to me that the best bet would be to go to NZ on a work visa try and find a job then send in my EOI and hopefully then be considered for residency.

Hi Ian,

I find the NZQA website very confusing (my tiny brain!) so I'm just going off all of the various lists and such. It's not their "final" decision, as I haven't contacted anyone there yet. I'm going to fire an email in today.

I just wonder - is it not possible to talk to someone in NZ immigration who might have answers? Face to face (or voice to voice) is always better.

I'm curious - anyone hear how many applications went in when immigration reopened in December?

Sorry for the chopping I've done here, but I think the answers about phoning the NZIS deserve a thread of their own: Clapping

Hi Mike,

If I were you I would try to secure employment with an NZIS approved employer. If you can do this you can join the work to residence programme. Basically you get a long term work permit under this programme and after 2 years you can apply and be certain of getting PR. Approved employers can short cut the system by being able to offer you a job without going through the job check requirement which can hold things up and puts potential employers off because of the red tape involved. You can find list of approved employers on the NZIS web site.
