(Sorry for so much text but please read on)
I know that this is a place to ask questions about immigration to & information about new zealand and what i'm going to ask is something off the subject for all of you but for me it is important to know so please read & reply if you can.
I had previously posted on this forum stating that i'm a recent graduate in IT from INDIA and want to come to new zealand for work and eventually immigration but someone replied to me that since I have no experience I will find it difficult to find a job and I should look for a job (for gaining experience) in another country.
Now I've been gathering information about few other countries and I know this sounds silly but I want to give England a try. My relatives live in ENGLAND so it is be possible for me to go there(for interview purpose).
From what I've read on this forum many of you are from england and are trying come to newzealand so I couldn't find a better source of information about England than this place.
I know that the job market in England is BAD but i'm willing to start working at the bottom & if I have to then work for the lowest possible wage too(plus I'm hoping being in IT helps a little too).
So can anyone of you please explain to me ways of going to england to find work and if it will be possible to find work there or should I just stop dreaming.
Thanks to everyone for reading(& REPLYING)

| hi, don't want to put a dampener on it but my daughter is in IT and has been out of work for nearly a year. The industry is starting to pick up a little but there are a lot of IT people in the UK with experience who are going to get a job first. |

Hi I really wouldn't come to England. IT went thru a boom about 10 years ago. As such job market saturated with IT people and wages very poor. Unless you are a systems analyst or a programmer, you will struggle. Sorry!

| Many of our friends here in the UK are, like us, in the IT industry - mainly developers - and we/they have definitely felt the pinch in the last year or so - the UK is not the place to be in IT right now... sorry I can't give any more positive pointers. |

The peak of the IT industry was the build up to 2000 where so many IT places were needed that they would take almost anyone if it filled the place and wages were very good. Now we have passed the .com boom and the year 2000 mass spending the IT spend has dropped through the floor. This now means that there is a huge over supply in the IT work force and companies can pick the best when they take on new staff.
I have just left my contract and I know that when they started looking for more people they would get upto 100 people going for the same job and this was after an agent had filtered the list down to get rid of those not suitable.
On top of this you need to take into acount that more work is now being subcontracted to India which again lowers the number of positions here in the UK.
The key thing you need is experience in the field and India is probably your best bet at the moment. Yes you could make much better money in the UK but that is if you can get a job in the first place.
In the current market I would say you really need to build up 2-3 years work experience before you would get through to interview stage just because of the number of spare people in the IT work force.
As India is now proving to be a building hotspot in the IT world I would say you would do better to get the experience there. Once you have some time under your belt you will be better placed to enter a market like the UK one.
Sorry this is not better news. Im not saying you wont find a job here in the UK but you might find it far harder then you might think it will be. |
