Tate,
I was quoted 3,900 for a 20ft container no matter what the weight ended up being. That was for door to door service from Florida to Auckland. But we would have to load and unload the container ourselves.

From what I've read on other forums, people who have moved often say they regretted not having taken more of their things with them. Tools, crockery, bed linen etc. First of all because it's nice and reassuring having your own things on the other side of the world and secodly, because it really adds up to much more than one expects, having to replace so many small things.
We obviously haven't moved yet, but if we do I think we'll be taking as much as possible. Of course, if you're not that attached to your stuff I'd probably not bother, but I like my things and would also find it a drag having to go out shopping for most of my household things again. Not much of a
shopper

Hi All
Just an FYI...we decided to take a lot of our things too. We were quoted about $10K USD for everything...packing all of our belongings, moving vans and shipping a 40 ft. container from Phoenix, AZ. to Tauranga (or Auckland - same price) and upacking at our new home there. Insurance will run a bit more. This was through Allied Pickford's.
A chunk of change for sure , but they seem to have a great handle on all of the details.
So far...so good. Off to Godzone by the end of May! |

when we visited NZ in feb 2001 we took our tent with us on the plane. this was just before the foot and mouth epidemic was kicking off in england
we declared that we had it when we entered the country and they asked us where/when we had last used it. it was still quite clean and they didn't have a problem with it.
we'll be taking it with us on the plane when we go later this year, along with my golf clubs. will make sure everything is spotless before we leave though! |
