Bit of a strage one this one!
We've been trying to buy travel insurance today, to cover our journey out to NZ. However, because this is a one way trip, nobody wants to cover it, they say they can only cover return trips.
Admittedly, we have not yet done much research into this, but should we just lie and take out worldwide cover for a month/year or is there another way around this??
What has everybody else done?

We had no such problems! We booked via airline-network and travelled Air NZ. |

I wouldn't recommend lying. Perhaps this is a UK Insurance thing ... many, many moons ago we purchased travel insurance for a move from UK to NY/USA. Our hotel room got ripped off on the 2nd night in NY. The UK insurance company tried to argue that cover was only for "return trips" ... can't remember the actual outcome but suspect we lost out.
I'd search until you find real coverage. In my experience the only time you need insurance is when you don't have it!

| We used www.unicare.org they are designed for students/visitors/workers to NZ and OZ. It is a health and travel policy combined, no probs with one way tickets and can cover anything up to 18 months. |

Hi all
Thanks for your help/advice on this matter. I tried the websites etc that you suggested, however in the end I contacted my local travel agents, who, after a little research on their part arranged the insurance for us through a company called AH Risk, they have a website www.ahrisk.net
For the 5 of us it came out at £53.98 for 3 day cover. This is roughly what we expected to pay, so we are happy.
Thanks again
Amanda |
