Hi there,
My partner and I are looking at moving to Auckland. We are moving from the Boston area and the one quote I've gotten so far seems high but I have nothing to compare it with. It covers packing and everything door to door, but not insurance, storage in NZ and who knows what other "additional charges" that may pop up. This comapny is always recommended in Boston Magazine under Best of Boston for movers.
Gentle Giant Moving Company
as an agent for Rainier Overseas Movers, Inc.
20-foot steamship container loaded with household goods only.........................$ 6,749.40 flat*
40-foot steamship container loaded with household goods and automobile.........$ 9,185.75 flat*
Has anyone else moved from the US east coast?? Please post any companies, prices that you were quoted, and actual costs if possible.
Thanks!

Hi -
I have started to work on quotes from the east coast (savannah area) to Auckland. Since most vessels go down the coast from Boston to Florida -- I think we will be researching the same lines. Lets stay in touch and see what we come up with!

This is the Q and A response to my email to Allied Van Lines. Could they be any more vague?!?! (I had given them a description of what I was bringing.) And I thought we could save some money by packing our own container. I guess that won't be an option. And check out the FAST route times! Holy Cow! Also, does anyone know how much a 1-bedroom apartment weighs?!
ALLIED VAN LINES:
1.) Cost and shipping time estimate for one 20' container.
If you please let me know the estimated weight and cubic feet be of your shipment. This how charges are determined with Allied International. You could email me a thorough detailed list of the items & boxes you would like to ship. Allied can ship your container via "FAST" ROUTE 2-3 months or "SLOW" ROUTE 2.5-4 months.
2.) Cost of insurance.
Replacement Value Insurance: $28.00 per $1000 declared by the customer.
3.) Who packs the container?
Since 9-11 all containers must be inspected and loaded by Allied International.
4.) Please list all costs that could come up.
They will be listed on the actual "Door to Door" estimate.
6.) Is storage in Auckland included in the price?
No. Storage is quoted separately.
