I just got a copy of 'Going to Live in NZ' from Amazon, and would recommend it It's up to date - it's a 2004 copy, mentions the Last Samurai, has food prices etc in it. It's got a section on setting up your own business which I like.
Also recently splurged on the New Zealand Official Yearbook 2002 (latest issue), which is a huge tome (sp?) full of all the statistics you could ever want How sad am I????!
I got the nukiwi report off the internet, too, which was pretty useful.
Mind you, if you don't want to spend money on books all the info is probably on this forum anyway |

We've recently read 'living and working in New Zealand' but it's really out of date with all the immigration changes (sorry, just had to try out one of those emoticon things to see if it worked). I will have a look out for the above titles...charley |

Hi,
Like Charley I would recommend "Living and working in New Zealand - A Survival
Guide" by Mark Hempshell (ISBN1-901130-76-2) - it is excellent although I agree the
immigration section is now out of date.
One to avoid - "Living and working in New Zealand" (5th Edition) by Joy Muirhead
- very very out of date and to be honest a waste of money.
Rgds.,
Nick
P.S. I am a newbie so be gentle with me. *:) |

| i was racking (wracking? how do you spell that?) my brains yesterday trying to think of an Auckland bookshop that had a coffeeshop annexe and mainly sold 2nd hand arty stuff. there was a really big poetry section and the whole place was sorta dishevelled and comfy. it was somehere off karangehape road and was the kind of place that cats curled up on top of big piles of dickens. am i imagining this place? my partner (an aucklander) swears that i must have been hallucinating.. |

Ok, I'm a nitwit...
Dinnaefash, I can't find 'Going to Live in NZ' on Amazon, even with the authors named. A couple of questions:
1 - Is it 'Going to Live in NZ' or 'Going to Live in New Zealand'?
2 - Is it Mathew Collins or Matthew Collins?
I'd really like to order this book, but I'm finding either nothing or 815 results!!
Please humo(u)r a cloth-headed Yank!!
Thanks, Rae |

Hi, Tanya,
Thanks once again! I'm now persuaded it simply isn't available from here in the States... the title doesn't turn up no matter how I search on Amazon's site for it.
B*llocks.
It's a good thing you're moving to Christchurch.. what would I do without you??
With ongoing gratitude and bottles of wine awaiting you, Rae |
