Hi
Anybody taken a Virgin mobile phone with them and managed to get it unlocked? I need a new phone but not sure if its worth it before we go (hopefully) or hang on until we get there.
Thanks

AFAIK Vodafone is the only option for UK mobiles here as they are the only GSM compatible network. A mobile is probably worth bringing as they are relatively more expensive here.
A vodafone SIM will cost you $35 |

I don't pretend to be knowledgeable about SIMS or mobile phones, so the following information may not be relevant, but this is what I found out by actually trying to use different SIMS in a Virgin Mobile. Admittedly, the Virgin phone, a Philips Savvy I believe, is an old model.
The Virgin mobile worked with the original SIM from Virgin, as well as when I placed an Orange SIM from another phone. However, when I tried it with a New Zealand Vodafone SIM, it requested that I entered the SPCK code, whatever that may be. Since I don't know what that code is, I was unable to get the Virgin phone to work with the NZ SIM.
Yet the Orange phone, a Nokia 3510, whch I believe had been previously unlocked, worked with all three SIMS, i.e. the original Orange SIM, the Virgin SIM, as well as the NZ Vodafone SIM, without requesting that I enter the SPCK Code. |
