Does anyone know if it is worth shipping my washing machine over?
When I was in NZ a few months back I noticed that everyone had these huge, top loading, coldwater machines (that destroy clothes). My machine is only 2 years old any cost a small fortune. I seem to think that i heard that UK machines will not work in NZ.

Is this true or was I dreaming?? No

Thanks to all who can helpxxx

Hi

I have read posts from others that have successfully taken out their w/mashines. I am taking my washer/dryer as quite new and today the PSS estimator came re shipping estimates and I checked it out with him too.

I didnt bother bringing mine and heard that top loaders were not very good. I must admit I have been converted! My top loader is great! It holds far more clothes than my front loader and washes warm and hot. It hasnt destroyed any clothes yet! The greatest thing is that you can throw in stuff after it has started too. I got a top make one for $700.

You should read the thread on 'to ship or buy new', it has some peoples thoughts on removals that may help.

Have any of you guys considered packing for yourselves and getting a container. It seems to be the cheapest and although it can only be insured for total lose from what I have been reading the shipping/packing people don't seem to pay out to willingly for breakages anyway so you would be no worse off. It saved me £800 packing myself and I would never have got all the stuff in the container otherwise - self pack allows much more thought to go into how things are packed to maximise space. I also used the kids soft toys to pack valuables.

As you say though, I am only insured for total loss but the items were packed really well onto the container and so I have few worries about them moving in transit.

Due in in 2 weeks so I will let you know if it survived fingers crossed

Yea, I thought about self-pack. I would be fine with the smaller items (ornaments, CD's etc) but we have many large pieces of furniture that I want wrapping up properly. Also, I will be on my own as my husband will already be in NZ so I need all the help I can get. Smile
