I find that my one-piece latex suit helps!
It also keeps the wee biting blighters off you, an added bonus............mind you the weights and tank are a bit cumbersome and it makes you sweat a lot  |

DEET is wonderful but very very strong, so be sparing with it, and it can melt plastics, so keep it away from trainers etc! Worked for us last year on a round the world tour
Avon's skin-so-soft in woodland flavour is another favourite - aparently the US soldiers swear by that one - and less potent.
My top tip is this - wear fragrance-free deodorants etc and don't wear perfume. The more you make yourself like a flower the more they are going to pop over for a sniff!
Don't worry too mucha bout bright colours as insects don't see colour the way we do and so they aren't always the insect-attractor they might seem. I agree about the flourescent thing tho - they see flourescent and ultraviolet so avoid anything like that!
